We went on the day trip of Chichen Itza + Cenote + Valladolid + Ek Balam.
We were staying at Excellence Playa Mujeres, so our pickup was 7am. We then proceeded to pick up another couple, then met up with the rest of the group at a gas station where we began our trip. Enrique our tour guide was incredible--he was so passionate and knew so much of the history. Hubby loved the history and all the background info he provided during the long car ride to Chichen Itza.
Chicken Itza is a must see--huge grounds, many temples & buildings and Enrique gave great background to everything. We were very appreciative of the water provided as well as umbrellas for shade.
Lunch was fairly disappointing. We went to a buffet in a little nearby hotel. The food didn't look too appetizing, and the staff there really pushed for tips. I advice you to bring plenty of snacks for yourself.
The cenote was a little crowded, but still a great experience. Be warned lockers and life vests cost a little extra if you want to use them.
Ek Balam was a great site, very fun to be able to climb the temple, and very peaceful grounds.
Valladolid was nothing special, and in my opinion could be cut from the trip entirely.
Overall, we had a great (very long) day!
Definitely something you have to do at least once!

Thank for your comments on the Mayan Experience tour, we always strive to provide unique and memorable experiences to our clients. This particular tour is an excellent combination of culture, history and nature and a great way to get to know the real Mexico as well as the ancient Mayan culture.

We'd just like to use this space to reply to your comment about lunch, we were very sad to hear you did not find it to your absolute satisfaction. Unfortunately when it comes to food, it's very hard to please everybody as everyone has different tastes and preferences. This particular restaurant we visit in Chichen Itza has one of the best reputations in the area and is a favorite among locals as well as tour companies.

This restaurant has one of the highest standards for quality and hygene, I once personally visited the place with a Thomas Cook director who went to inspect the place and we were both pleasently surprised at the cleanliness of the place and the handling of food and preparations. I can almost assure you it is the cleanest place to eat around Chichen Itza and one of the best in the whole Yucatan.

The place is air conditioned, a true blessing after the heat of touring Chichen Itza. The menu is varied both in vegetables, salads and true mexican food from the region such as chicken pibil, pork pibil, rice, beans, battered fish, potato quiche, pasta and desserts such as flan, fruits and others. Fresh tortillas are prepared at the place as well as the traditional salsas. We sometimes even enjoy typical Yucatan dancers at the place.

I've been going there for over 10 years and have rarely heard a complaint such as yours, which is what caught me by surprise.

If you're looking for a gourmet experience next time, let us take you to Izamal, a magical town which can be combined with Chichen Itza in a private tour and where you will find vast options of dishes typical of the region.

Again, thank you very much for your review, I thought it important to address your comment on lunch as it is the absolute exception and we hope to see you again some other time when you decide to come back for more.

My husband and I took a shared Mayan Experience tour (Chichen Itza, cenote Ik Kil and Ek Balam) on May 21st, 2013. We booked the tour after reading the trip advisor reviews.
It was absolutely great! No regrets;no complains. Perfect!
Before booking the tour I contacted Gudelio who promptly answered all my questions and helped me with the process. Enrique (guide) and Diego (driver) picked us up early in the morning (7am). Before getting to Chichén Itzá, Enrique gave us an overview of the what we would see at the ruins and Mayan history.
Tour highlights:
- amazing history class by Enrique
- Ek Balam - loved this place.
- Cenote Ik Kil - simply beautiful

Planning to book the Cool tour next time in Cancun. Can't wait!

I traveled with my family of 20 during our 50th Anniversary vacation. Ages varied from 70 - 2. Started out reserving for the four senior adults, by the time we departed on the vacation, all 20 went on The Mayan Experience Tour. Gudelio was very accommodating as I added travelers to the tour.

We used 2 vans that were in good condition and had excellent A/C. Diego was our expert driver and Murux (Juan) was our extremely knowledgeable guide.

The tour went exactly as described at the companies web site. The early departure gets you to the sites prior to arrival of the large groups and while the temperature is still reasonable. Be prepared, the tour takes 13 hours, hotel to hotel.

Our group enjoyed all aspects of the tour with the EK Balam site getting the most impressive award. The water at Ik Kil cenote was a little chilly, but refreshing.

If we return to the area, we will definitely use Mayans' Explorers as out tour company.

We booked the Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Ik Kil and Vallolodid tour. Gudelio Alanis was very helpful in setting up this tour prior to us arriving. He is very professional, helpful and responsive. Our guide, Enrique, was great. He was very informative and you can tell he really enjoys what he does. This was an all day tour, so it's definitely tiring, but it is well worth it. Chichen Itza was amazing and Enrique really makes the place come alive with his narratives. Be prepared for heat, but they provide umbrellas for shade, so that was helpful. I would not miss out going to Chichen Itza if you are visiting Cancun. Our second stop was Ik Kil. That was somewhat disappointing, as there were so many people there. Still, it is a very pretty place. Ek Balam was very cool. We would have preferred to spend a bit more time at Ek Balam, but they were closing the place down while we were there. Vallolodid was the last stop. We did not think it added much to the tour and, frankly, they could just drop it and nothing would be lost. Still, we had a great day and you won't be disappointed.

We went on a special private tour with Mayan-Explorers.com to Akumal ,Tankah and Tulum. We had a private tour guide and driver. They took care of our every need including drinks and snacks. Swimming with the Turtles and Rays and snorkeling the reefs in Akumal, Zip lining, canoeing, swimming and diving in the cenotes and the delicious Mayan lunch in Tankah, and the extensive knowledge of the Mayan culture in Tulum from our guide was well worth taking the private tour for the 4 of us.
