This is a splendid restaurant. A great alternative to the overpriced places in PDC, El Bistro at La Tortuga was priced well for an upscale dining experience. And very relaxing, as well! From the appetizer to the salad to the entrée to the wine, everything here was tasty, fresh, and well-prepared. The service was lovely: attentive and well received for the atmosphere the restaurant is trying to create. Our waitress was friendly, sweet, and extremely good at her job. The salad was plentiful and healthy and tasty. The fajitas my wife ordered were very tasty and the shrimp that I ordered were large, plentiful, fresh, and perfectly prepared.

Two things that were neither positive nor negative: ordered a glass of Mexican sparkling wine and it wasn't sparkling, but given how the entire experience otherwise was completely worth the price of admission, they get a pass. Also, the tortilla chips with a mushroom sauce was a weird bit of fusion, but as we knew the place was fusion, so we were up for new experiences, even if we didn't appreciate their flavor. It left us leaving, "why?" However, they weren't disagreeable!

Finally, the atmosphere: very beautiful. Half inside/half outside, the bistro is a little oasis away from the crap on 5th Avenue. Being constantly bombarded by shopkeepers, it was wonderful to escape only a block away and have a lovely, quiet, romantic experience at La Tortuga. We even consider staying at the hotel that houses the Bistro on our next trip!

My husband and I visited the Playa del Carmen area for two weeks in January 2011. We had the pleasure of being joined by friends for the first few days, and family for seven, so in the two week period we were in Mexico we ate at El BIstro twice. The atmosphere of this restaurant and hotel is very intimate and quite a special find in the tourist bustle of Playa del Carmen. We were staying at a large all-inclusive resort in the area and wandered into the lobby of this hotel by chance. The bartender, FIdel took time out of his evening to show us around the hotel and was a charming host as well as an amazing bartender. Two nights later we returned for our first of two meals. The seating was immediate. We were instantly greeted my the manger and welcomed in fine-style to the Bistro. Fidel, who was working at the time, sent us a special complimentary drink. Our steak was cooked to perfection and the intimate oasis atmosphere was perfect and just what we were looking for. The waiter was personable, funny and very professional at his job. We felt our meal was well-priced and left feeling very valued as customers. We returned a week later with family members. Once again, El Bistro did not dissapoint. Our meal was wonderful. When the time came to leave, the manger, who recognized us from our first visit was not in sight. We paid our bill and headed into the street, and were quickly called after with a wonderful greeting and ADIOS from the manger. El BIstro we loved you and we are booked to return to Playa del Carmen in January 2012 and we will be back!!

This place has the best food and service in Playa del Carmen! I cannot say enough about this place and good wine as well. Make sure you try the red tuna nachos!

Went here on a recommendation from a lady at our hotel. I Had the steak. It was not the best or worst steak i have ever had. Had one of the salads with pear in it. I would recommend it. Very tasty with a good dressing. Our waiter was very helpful and the service was quick. Overall this place was pretty decent.
