My wife and I went there on our honeymoon and loved it. Look - this isn't "The Ritz" and you aren't going to have high speed internet in your room. Instead, we did have A/C, but did not have a phone, alarm clock or TV (nor did we want any of these). However, that was made clear to us when we made the reservation. If you're looking for anything more, be sure to ask. As for location, it would be hard to find a better location anywhere in Playa. We will ALWAYS stay at Rana Cansada when we travel to Playa in the future.

You get what you pay for at La Rana Cansada. The rooms are sparse, dark, and really hot. The vibe is laid back, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's welcoming. This seemed like a good place to hide out if one was running from the law.

Over the years I have stayed at La Rana Cansada a number of times and found a warm welcome every time. I travel often in Southern Mexico and once owned a home in Playa Del Carmen. Ted and Pia own this small motel and have always gone the extra mile to make every guest feel welcome no matter where you are from, both they and many of their staff are multilingual so they can provide a good value in accommodation and also direct you to any restaurant or other attraction you may have interest in. Take it from an experienced travelerLa Rana Cansada is a great place to stay and a very good value in Playa Del Carmen.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Rana Cansada last year in February for about five nights. Although it was priced well (35USD), the room was fairly noisy and hot (had a ceiling fan but no window!). When we were shown to our first room, we immediately noticed a stong burning smell coming from the ceiling fan. We asked for another room and the owner's demeanor immediately changed from helpful to impatient, and remained unfriendly the rest of the trip. (I promise we weren't being "picky.") Has a nice courtyard with a bar and board games, but not at all a family atmosphere. Generally, the owners didn't go out of their way to make us feel welcome.
