“Great hotel”
Reviewed April 12, 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Playacar Palace for a lovely relaxing week. The staff make this hotel very special. The pool is a little small but the beach makes up for this, amazing setting. We will definitely be returning to either here or the Cozumel Palace!

First of all I'm not a club member so I haven't visited other sister resorts so this review is purely based on our experience on this resort and not in comparison to others.

We loved our stay at Playacar Palace. We stayed in a SUPERIOR DELUXE OCEAN VIEW room and it was fantastic. Clean, decorated beautifully and we used the spa bath by the window. It was great!

Food was fantastic. There was enough variety for the 5 nights we stayed there.

Service was awesome. They took care of us really well, from the concierge who helped us find my daughter's lost hat, to the cleaners who helped us with a spill in our room, wait staff at dinner etc…

The pool was fantastic, we spent a lot of time there and the pool wait staff were awesome too.

The kids also enjoyed the kids club and my husband and I enjoyed the massage at the spa.

Also the best part is the location. It's on a great piece of beach and a short walk to town.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

We are here for 15 days and there have been many disappointments. Firstly despite a family booking some 6 months ago, we were split either side of the hotel. The room we were given with a young child was right by the late night bar, Señor Frogs. We got to move two nights later. Now we are in the more updated side of hotel. However the hotel is in the process of a makeover with ongoing maintenance and painting, considering this is high season, seems badly planned.

Hotel credits appear generous but then you may feel compelled to take trips or use them for something you probably don't want, but still contribute 16% tax and the obligatory Tips that are demanded by some.

The waiting staff are excellent and most accommodating.

The food is very good in quality, the Italian and Asian restaurants very good, but the wine quality is lacking even unless upgrading.

Poolside drinks are not good quality, lack taste, soft drinks have no fizz and beer is almost flat.

Spa is over priced, this is Mexico, not Europe.

The beach is superb, beautiful sand and great for a walk away from Playa itself.

The pool is too shallow for a decent swim, but good for kids.

Room Tip: Avoid the low numbers on the left hand side of hotel if you are a light sleeper

This was our first visit to the Playacar and we ill be back!
As we expected/hoped the staff were friendly, helpful and really working to make our stay special. Food was great - beach and view fantastic.
If you are into the environment - recommend you get up early and go for a walk down the beach and or to the parks. I saw haveline, agouti (all over), monkeys, lizards and iguanas, deer and different birds. Got to get up early though - quiet and not too hot.
Took the ferry over to Cozumel one day - you can snorkel right off their deck. Just walked in and was recognized - friendly reception again, good food ---- all great Palace treatment. Ferry ride is fun in itself by the way.
Room was great, perfect level of entertainment for us, going back with the full family!!!
Didn't use our credits since too busy relaxing on the beach - but you get a card to carry them over for another time. Very nice.
Again walking around - lots of history and those ruins are the real thing!!
Perfect holiday!

Paul

First time to this resort, but have been to all the other palace resorts as we are Elite members.
We can say enough good things about the staff, everyone is wonderful but there are some that just clearly stand above and beyond, especially when us Americans are so used to the attention of service.
Overall we loved it and This our favorite out of all the palace, because of the restaurants and the amazing beach and view, and closeness of Playa. Everyone was great but , who really went above and beyond where, Ayanel breakfast waiter
Nora beach waitress
Abigail credit/supervisor
Fernando greatest bar tender
Lorena my spa lady. :-)
Dionicio/ breakfast waiter
The spa is the best here beautiful and looked brand new.
The restaurants are great and I Loved the hibachi and the sushi yum.
Definatly worth every penny.

This was our first trip to Mexico and we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at The Playacar Palace. The hotel is a little 'tired' in places due to its age but the rooms were well maintained and very clean, housekeeping was to an excellent standard. The food was delicious although I would like to have seen a change of menu in the Italian restaurant after a week. That was by far our favourite place to eat and the foot was of excellent quality and beautifully presented but over a 10 day stay we ate in that restaurant 6 times and it was becoming difficult to find sufficient choice. The staff were very helpful and friendly, our favourite waiter for breakfast and lunch was Porfirio - a delightful young man. The hotel 'credit' system was a wonderful surprise - so very generous adding a huge extra value to the holiday. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel - a long journey from the UK but worth it.

This was our 4th time here. We are members and boy have things changed. I had to pay $215 more for a room that I used to get just for the asking. The $1500 hotel credit is a joke as you have to pay a $16 tax/fee if you use any of it. We used to get 2 trips for nothing. We also got better wine in the restaurant also. Now you have to pay from your credit exhorbitant rates for the wine. The tax is more than the bottle would cost if you bought it on the street. Try and get a lounge by the pool. Now they have VIP and Diamond class guests and they reserve the chairs for them weather they use them or not, same goes for the beach area.
The best thing about the hotel is the staff, they are so helpful and friendly they make your problems go away. The food is still great and they have a new Asian style rest. with a hibachi stove and the guys are better than Benihana. Better reserve the space as soon as you get there as they are mostly booked all week. The golf course is not available anymore and you have to travel 1 hour to Moon. New spa is on site and is beautiful. They finally got the beach back after Wilma and you can walk for miles in either direction. Again, its the staff that makes this place great. I guess the beach does also. Fight for an ocean view room so you can see it and the pool. I almost forgot, we were on the 5th floor rooms 529-533. There are dogs that bark all day and part of the night in the rear of the hotel at some ones house. That's it for now.....

Room Tip: Fight for an ocean view room on the sides. Try and stay on the upper floors and NOT over the lobby a...
