The staff is wonderful and food and service good, but as a VIP member that spent LOTS of money, the management sure isn't catering to us. We've been twice in the 2 months. The first time, we had to wait until nearly 4 PM for our room. Our daughter was with us and had a separate room, but no DVD player - with a 14 month old that needed entertainment. We got a DVD player for them, but it took a couple days. we ran across a number of members and all said the same thing we did. Whether it was at the beach, room selection, or special requests, members sure didn't get special treatment. Wedding parties seemed to get the best rooms and one our friends indicated they got a room facing the parking lot until they complained.

It's a great place to stay, but unless they change things, don't bother to join.

Room Tip: They have the new "sand suites" that open to the beach on the 1st floor if you have kids.

Dear Walt3

All the Playacar Family appreciates your comments about our service and the time to write your review on Trip advisor. All of us daily do our best to pamper our guest and treat them as our own family. Unfortunatetly, our hotel is small and not always we can give our guests the great rooms they expect. Please accept my apologies

Feel free to contact me anytime at your next visit in order to make all the arrangements about your DVD player, room, dinner reservations, cleaning times, etc…

I've stayed at the Palace Resorts many times. This was my first time staying at Playacar. Comparing to their other resorts, this was my least favorite. The location was nice since you could take the ferry to Cozumel and walk into town to look around but overall the resturant selection and the grounds themselves were not up to the same standard as their other resorts. They are in the process of redoing some of the rooms etc and adding the spa, but overall the buildings seemed like they need an overhaul--they are by no means terrible--I'm just comparing them to their other resorts which are usually top notch! The credits they give you per room are difficult to use since they are limited on what you can really use them for and now that you have to pay the 11% service charge on them, you are basically paying for them. Tours are very limited for which they offer and the romantic dinner was nothing like the one we had last year at the HR in Punta Cana. Overall, the wait staff was exceptional. The waitresses by the pool/beach came around often and were very friendly. 3 out of our 7 nights the bar/lounge was closed for a private event so were unable to use this option and they don't have many at this location so that was kind of a bummer.

Room Tip: I don't know how much you are able to input into getting a specific room but we were in 242 and...

Our third trip to Playacar Palace. Restaurant service was very slow and not as efficient as previous visits. They seem to have less help. Pool and beach bar service was outstanding and constant. But overall another great vacation.

Room Tip: Beach view is great and patios are pleasant places to pass time and watch the action. 4th Floor in...

It has been some time since we stayed at Playacar Palace, part of the Palace Resort chain of time-share hotels ... but this resort is worthy of a positive review.

We were recently in Playa del Carmen and although we did not physically stay there this trip, we have stayed there in the past.

This resort is smaller than what you would find at Moon Palace and some of the other Palace Resort properties ... but Playacar Palace is a great, great hotel.

The service is superior ... and this would include the wait staff, housekeeping staff, bell staff and front desk ... everyone at this hotel will go out of their way so you have a wonderful stay.

I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Even though this is an all inclusive hotel, tips are appreciated by all the staff, and you will rece...

I'm writing this review with a day and a half left in my stay here, but I'm confident things aren't going to change for the worse between now and then. I've stayed at 3 other Palace properties and like this one the best. Easy access to the 5ta Av shopping/tourist district (it's 2 beach spots away from Senor Frogs) and yet you can sit on the beach and feel miles away from civilization.

The rooms are clean and well-appointed, and the service here is the best I've seen in a half dozen trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. I especially want to mention a couple staff members, because they went above and beyond during the trip and deserve special focus:

Two nights ago a desire for seafood tacos led to an inquiry at the buffet restaurant (excellent breakfast, lunch and themed dinners) about making a special meal off the menu. The next night, Rodolfo and the manager (Alfredo) arranged with Chef Javier to make some shrimp and fish tacos - and this was at 10:00pm! We were told to come back the next night for a special dinner, and were told to come at 6 so the restaurant wouldn't be too busy.

Tonight Rodolfo, Javier and the other Alfredo topped my expectations! Rodolfo prepared a shrimp dish at the table, and Javier and the rest of the kitchen staff broiled filet mignon to perfection. This was one of the best meals I've ever eaten, and it was very a special way to spend a rainy night in Playa.

Marina's poolside service is top-notch. My only gripe is the aggressive sea gulls who try to get food from the beach/pool area. This is nothing compared to other places though.

The rest of the staff are great as well, and the bartenders everywhere at the resort are almost like Wisconsin bartenders: They chat you up and seem truly interested in where you're from, what you want to do while in Mexico, and so on.

I could go on for a lot longer; suffice it to say a return trip here is definitely in the cards.

The property is getting something of a cosmetic overhaul and will be even better next time!

Overall, we had an excellent five day stay at the hotel. We found the hotel staff to be very polite and helpful. The Italian restaurant was the best place to eat for dinner. The hotel has an excellent beach location and there are Mayan ruins within a short walking distance from the hotel. On a negative note, we did find out that the hotel cash credits were limited on what could purchased with them. For example, only $300 could be used for the spa and tours/activities were limited unless you wanted to pay additional money.

Room Tip: We spent the first two nights in one of the side/corner rooms - it was pretty tight for a family of...

Airport pickup and transfer ok. Check in as member quick, but only one of two rooms ready in mid afternoon. Maid service sporadic, even with clean now or do not disturb signs. Liberal use of cleaning ammonia stained some clothes. Thick new bath towels mixed with old stringy bath towels. Bringing them to front desk seemed to have no effect.
Italian restaurant was superb. Oriental was ok, lots of noise, ok food. Buffet was ok at best. Tenderloin in italian was some of best beef i have had, but beef in buffet was generally close to charcoal.
Excellent beach, with superb service.
Spa is now in house, rather than at club. Was booked well ahead, so we lost many member and bonus dollars because they couldn't book us.
Room service prompt and food warm.
Took tour to Coba. Fantastic!
Expect member sales pitch from one of many snake oil sales persons. Talk is fast and cheap, credible information not so readily available.
Beds seemed comfortable, but several of us woke up stiff and sore. Air conditioning marginally to 70 degrees, little air movement.
Beautifaul facility, being upgraded. Needs services of good food manager and more beef from wherever they get the absolutly fantastic steaks for the oriental place.
