We have been Occidental Vacation Club First Club members for close to 20 years. This was our first trip to Allegro Playacar. We favor the Alllegro resorts because they are less formal and more welcoming. Food was good. Grounds meticulously maintained. Rooms clean. Beach warm and inviting. Pool was warm. Entertainment staff kept everyone as active as they wanted. The First Club staff was attentive and accommodating. Enjoyed it so much, we'll be returning next year.

We had a great time at Allegro Playcar. The staff was very friendly and there was great security. It was nice to be able to walk in Playa Del Carmen. The Lobster supper on the beach was really an added treat and well worth the price. The house wine needs attention. We Quebecers love our wine.Cant say enough about 3, yes 3 great staff members Jacobo !! Ange l!! and "Ivan terriblo diablo Dias Gonzales." They all deserve a raise. All 3 went out of there way to make our stay exceptional. Hats off to them. Food was also good. Rooms were very clean and well kept for such an old resort. Had 2 days were the ocean was choppy but overall a really nice vacation .I liked the smallness of the place You meet new people and make new friends Thanks girls It was a hoot. I would reccommmend Allegro Playcar .Also a round of applause for Andrianne and his crew Great energy from them.

We arrived at the Occidental Allegro Playacar and spent the week of March 16-23, 2013. The Allegro is a smaller resort and doesn't have some of the frill other larger resorts have. However, we appreciate the intimacy of the smaller resorts and the convenience of them.

We are members of the occidental vacation Club and have stayed at many of thier other properties including Xcaret, Grand Cozumel, Grand Punta Cana and Grand Puerto Vallarta. We had some idea of what to expect before we arrived and weren't didappointed.

We were immediately taken to the First Club upon arrival and checked into what we think was the best suite on the property. We can thank Francisco, the regional manager, for that. We had an upper suits, 5711 and 5712 which included two separate bedrooms with baths and a large living dining area facing the beach. It was a truly wonderful space! The only problem was that the air conditioning really didn't work. This wasn't a problem because we were at the beach or pool during the day, at the First Club or one of the restaurants during the day and simply opened all the windows when we slept. This would, however, be a real problem when temperatures rise during the Summer months.

The First Club was geat. We usually had breakfast there and often had evening coctails and before dinner offerings before we went to dinner at one of the restaurants. The staff was wonderful and did everything they could to make our stay better. The only problem was the loud, often drunk group of 23 that came from Akansas and often dominated the club and hot tub. Had it not been for them, the First Club would have been especially great.

The Buffet was generally good. Breakfast was great. It offered many choices and had an egg station and mexican breakfast station. Dinner was good and offered choices of meats and one could always find something they would like. I especially liked the evening pasta station.

The Mexican Restaurant was good but not great. It offered limited choices which were generally OK but not wonderful. The italian Resturant was also OK but was on about the same leve as the Mexican. Lunch Buffet near the pool was also fine but nothing very special. There was a daily barbeque which offered chicken, sausage and hamburgers which many seemed to enjoy.

The grounds were beautiful and well kept. Improvements in all parts of the resort were evident and ongoing.

Overall, I would rate the food as 3.5 out of 5.

The beach and pools are first rate. There were enough chairs and palapas to go around and the beach was beautiful and clean. The same can be said of the pools.

My overall evaluation of the resort is 4 out of 5. I would return to the resort in the future.

Room Tip: Pay extra and upgrade to the First Club

Just returned from resort and wanted to say Daniel at reception made our trip extra special. He knew me from face book comments prior to our trip, We were given ocean view room with welcome letter and fruit tray.Wow...nice way to start our holiday. We are for travelling with sis and bro-in-law
they, with a little push, received same treatment. The room was what we expected nothing fancy but we're not there except to sleep. Maid Lucy worked very hard and we tipped daily.Food was excellent we esp. enjoyed BBQ at lunch. Had 3 a la carte meals Italian 2 times because you can eat Mexican daily here. Beef is amazing at Italian restaurant. The beach at this resort is the best I have ever seen.My only complaint is the entertainment staff, we hardly saw them and they only talked to us the day before we left. Not much personality and when we did interact the results were poor. Dance lesson were spent trying to get the DJ's attention to play the right music, poor communication, standing there waiting made me just want to walk away. This resort has no entertainment in the evening at all. The shows were good but after that nothing, no music at all. As a result, we're bored so we went to bed. Nestor, the best bartender was awesome and sidekick David "Taco man" made evenings much better. All in all, we had a great time, we did Xel-Ha trip for the day and loved it.Our vacation ended with chocolate covered strawberry's... a nice touch. Again shinning stars Daniel, Nestor and David. Thank-you

We stayed at a 5 star resort in Riveria Maya last Spring and after reading reviews about Allegro Playacar we were a little nervous. The resorts were very similiar, but at Allegro Playacar you could actually enjoy yourself! Not harassed by time share people at all! Plenty of food options and didn't have anything that didn't taste good and fresh. The staff was amazing, the grounds well kept, beach, and location! Only a fifteen minute walk on the beach to Playa Del Carmen and to take ferry to Cozumel. The entertainment at resort was great! Our view from room was spectacular! We were in room 5415 and could see both pools, and Cozumel at night from balcony. The beds were a little hard, but we slept great every night! Can't beat it for the price!

Room Tip: The buffet is great and the hamburger bar, but if you want fine dining make sure you make reservatio...

We had a great time at the Allegro Playacar. 4 of us went, we all had a perfect time. The staff are helpful, friendly and only interested in providing the ultimate vacation. The restaurants are fantastic, don't just eat at the buffet! The buffet is good, tho' like all others there are some "hit and miss" dishes.
The amenities are a little dated, this is one of the older resorts in the area, but it is very well maintained.
The pools are clean and well maintained. There is the party pool with swim up bar, the adults pool and the kids pool. This is a very family friendly resort.
We will definitely be returning and would recommend it to our friends.

Room Tip: If possible when booking select the First Club upgrade. It is worth the extra money for the incredib...

We can't thank the Occidental Allegro Playacar enough for our recent stay. We have stayed at the hotel 9 times in the past few years and have always found the staff to be so friendly and very helpful. The food is always great. We dined at both specialty restaurants several times and enjoyed all the changes to the menus from our last stay. This hotel has become our home away from home. The beach remains beautiful. We enjoy being close enough to town to be able to walk into town when we want. With the bus station and the ferry close by we have numerous choices for excursions or just a walk. This hotel is a good choice for those wishing a comfortable stay in a smaller hotel. We love it's overall charm. Thanks Again!
