“Wedding, vacation, and more”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

After much research, my wife chose the Sandos Playacar resort and spa as the site of our destination wedding. She did much of the work, and communicated with the wedding planner, Lupita. Lupita was a gem to work with, and made the experience very easy for the both of us. When we arrived at the resort, she had everything ready, and made sure that all the staff gave us extra special care. She went over last minute details with us, was very caring, and the ceremony went off without a hitch. It was exactly what we wanted, and more. I would definitely recommend working with Lupita to set up your wedding there.

The resort itself was very nice. There were 30 of us, spread out all over the resort, and everyone had a great time. The staff make this place, and are beyond nice. They quickly remember your preferences, preferred drinks, and names, and are extremely friendly. Everyone in our party commented on their friendliness, and we were all impressed.

Each day, we'd meet our friends and family at the adult pool, and had a great time there. The activity director would organize volleyball games, which allowed us to meet other guests, and the bar staff were phenomenal. The food at the various buffets and restaurants was wonderful. It was fresh, full of variety, and always replenished. I would especially recommend trying the traditional Mexican fare - it's not always easy to find, but will blow anything you've had Stateside away for its freshness and flavor. The specialty restaurants are pretty good also. Remember that you're in Mexico, so it won't be authentic Asian, French, or Brazilian food. Nonetheless, it's delicious, and the staff will take good care of you.

In all, the resort is what you make it to be. We went there for a vacation/wedding, and had a great time. We took it easy, got married, and relaxed with friends and family. When we wanted to have fun, we went on excursions, hung out, or partied. When we wanted to relax, we went to the spa, hung out on the beach, or spent time in the pool.

Would I recommend the resort? Absolutely. As an all inclusive, it's pretty good, personal, and not pretentious. The thing that makes this place is the staff. Engage them, and they'll make sure that you have an excellent time. They work very hard to make sure that you have a good time.

A few mentionable things: My wife left her pocketbook on the beach, in the evening. We told the concierge, thinking it'd be gone. They sent out a team to look for it, and we had it back within an hour, without an item, or penny missing. Another friend left their room unlocked - the staff took an inventory of what was in their room, and a security guard was posted outside their room until they returned.

On one night, it was my birthday, and we all went to the Mexican restaurant. Our waiter, whose name escapes me at the moment, made the night for all of us. He serenaded me a few times, brought special shots for us, made hats out of napkins, and made us all laugh. He was amazing, and to this day, everyone talks about what a good time he showed us.

It's my second time in sandos and hopefully not my last time. This is the best resort I've ever been to. The service of everythigng is great but the best of all, the entertainement team is amazing. Jahaziel Valenzuela is a great entertainer. He is known as the ZUMBA KING! He is a great dancer, he is very out going, hes always smiling, he is very funny and it really shows that he loves what he is doing! My family absolutely loves Jahaziel Valenzuela.

Returning to Playacar for the 6th time, we took advantage of a discount offer if we attended a time-share talk. The talk was quite civil and brief enough.
The resort:
1. Rooms were quite good. AC's working fine, free wall safe, always clean. As per other reviews, noise from hallways was often disruptive, but this was mostly a reflection of inconsiderate guests. Beds were not nearly as hard as stated elsewhere. Nealy always had hot water available.
2. Food was OK, not magical. A la cartes were a little better, particularly French (adults only). Buffet selections obviously targeted for families.
3. Beach and water were very nice, being at the end of the Playacar strip. Activities on beach were fun for teens (and teens at heart), but did not facilitate relaxation. Staff tried to protect "Adults-only section of beach, but were frequently overrun...very difficult to enjoy any quiet down-time. Very few pesky beach vendors. Beach bar and munchies were close-by.
4. Wildlife was encouraged, including free-ranging howler monkies
5. Quite easy to get a good coffee; a little harder to get a quality cocktail.
6. Atmosphere: This place definitely caters to families, with and without teens. Adults...not so much, despite there being a very passable spa. Not recommended at all for romance/couples.

Overall: Quite good. 4 star at best. Staff were nice. Best for families. Fairly good value, but avoid Spring Break here at all costs if you want to relax!

Room Tip: Adults-only section recommended. Unless you like to party and share a hot-tub, haciendas are not as...

Just a note to say that Tommaso Nieli, the Concierge, is a huge asset to Sandos! He really understands real customer service. Also, David at the beach bar is great! This was the third time we have visited this resort, and look forward to returning in June. We had a blast! Thanks!

THE GOOD The food was good enough for our family, we were at the front of the resort which was average rooms as requested but could here everyone coming to their rooms late at night. The cleaning staff, servers in the resturants, bar and the cupcake bar were amazing. The beach and activities on the beach were good. The added Cupcake Bar was a plus. The added Miniture Golf was terrific (needs some clean:ing up) as it is new. The Spa a Plus to our Vacation.

THE NOT SO GOOD .... The Entertainment .... SUGGESTION .... Keep the Stupid Shows (Karioke) Games and Kid shows to the theatre .Everyone who travels to all inclusives have had to endure this stuff too many times. If you do not have children with you it is painful. In the courtyard keep it to music. Something you can dance to or just have a drink and listen. Three nights were terrific ... The Rock Band and the Guy doing Bob Mareley and another band. After eating you could step outside and feel like you were involved on those eveings. There a couple of other really good acts, but could not see them well enough to enjoy, so should have been done in the theatre. In my opinion Live music should be in the COURTYARD from 7pm to 2pm for the adults to linger and talk with friends and have a few drinks. I have been at one resort that did this and everyone agreed how great it was. We have been to Sandos twice and want to return with a group of friends, BUT.?????? THE BIKES are great when you need to get out of the resort for a couple of hours, but NOT WELL KEPT. My husbands seat fell off on the way to town and my gears did not work which made for a very unpleasant afternoon. They should be stored inside so the rain doesn't rust them and ruin them.
*** I hope you take my suggestions into consideration and we will be back with friends.

Room Tip: We preferred being near the beach as my husband is slightly disabled and everything was close, but o...

We chose Sandos Playacar Beach Resort and Spa as the place for our destination wedding and couldn't be happier with the services they provided us. We arrived for our 7 night stay on March 1st and we were met at check-in by Tommoso and he was very helpful throughout our entire stay. We had 41 family and friends traveling with us and he made sure that all our needs were taken care of from check-in to check-out.

All of the staff at Sandos were very friendly and accommodating and provided excellent service to us and our guests. We were provided a room upgrade to an oceanfront room that we weren't expecting upon our arrival. We mostly ate at the buffet restaurants and the food was good, not great, but we always found something that we liked.

The pool areas at the resort were very nice but we never spent time at any of the pools because we were enjoying the amazing beach. The beach was very clean and the staff raked the beach every morning and made sure that cups and trash were picked up throughout the day. We always found enough beach chairs to accommodate our large group without going down early in the morning to save chairs.

The day after our arrival we met with Lupita to finalize our wedding plans and she was wonderful to work with. We had corresponded with her through email to plan our wedding so she had most of the details before our arrival. We had our wedding on the beach and it was more than we could have ever hoped for and the decorations and flowers were beautiful. The minister made the ceremony very special for us even through she didn't know us. Tommoso and Lupita wanted to have a BBQ on the beach for us after the wedding since we had such a large group. It was truly amazing! The food was great and they had the chefs right on the beach grilling the food. To top the evening off they surprised us with music from a Mariachi band.

Overall our experience at Sandos was unforgettable from the friendly staff, beautiful beach and resort, great nightly entertainment, and quality services we would recommend this resort to anyone. We are already talking about our return visit.

Room Tip: One of the oceanfront buildings if you want to spend most of your time on the beach.

This was our second time at Sandos, our first as members. We found the experience to be wonderful. My husband and I were both nervous about what we had purchased on our first trip and after getting back and reading several negative reviews we were thinking we had really gotten taken, but we were WRONG. After we got the little mix up with our email address taken care of it was very smooth and efficient. The resort staff was friendly and great. Roger was helpful in getting all our reservations taken care of. David Edwards our waiter on the beach was excellent. I wish we could go more often, I am already looking forward to coming back down there. It was certainly a nice break from the Wyoming weather.
