We traveled to RH the 3rd week of April, 2013. There were few surprises as we had read many TA reviews. We packed dress slacks and cocktail dresses and might have been slightly overdressed, but not out of place, and had no issues at any of the restaurants concerning dress codes. We emailed prior to arrival and secured dinner reservations, but would have enjoyed a little more flexibility with the schedule. Additionally (as many reviewers mentioned) there is no buffet for someone who would like to enjoy an unscheduled, less formal dinner. This seemed awkward at first, but we adapted easily. We found the room to be clean and accommodating, however the “in room mini bar” consists of water, sodas and a couple beers (unlike most resorts which offer self-serve liquors in-room). The resort layout is very serene. The mosquitos were very prevalent in the courtyard area between the villas. The staff (concierge, bartenders, waiters/waitresses) were all very friendly and very eager to please. The “towel game” at the pool is a little deceiving as it appears most loungers are taken by early morning, however one morning (very early) I witnessed staff members placing towels on every chair, which produces the appearance of “saved” loungers. We chose to occupy the beach and had no issues finding loungers (however we are somewhat early risers). This resort is very relaxed. There is no music at the pool and all is quiet. There is no swim-up-bar, which is inconvenient when the bar line gets long and you have to get out of the pool and stand on hot concrete. However, this can be overcome by simply ordering drinks from the staff while remaining in the pool. Evening bar scenes are also quiet with the exception of trivia and karaoke nights, etc. This is a perfect resort if you are looking for total relaxation, however if you seek a lively crowd, RH is probably not what you are looking for. I will return and would recommend to a friend.

Room Tip: Higher floors appear to have fewer mosquitos. Interior (garden view) rooms have less noise from neig...

Stayed April 13-20. Weather was fantastic. Most comfortable lounge chairs of any resort we stayed at - the pool boy puts fresh covers on the cushions every morning and you get a view of the ocean while lounging at the pool. Top shelf alcohol - which is your favorite flavor of Grey Goose? The gourmet restaurant had the best steak at an all inclusive and it was topped with foie gras. Great sushi at Azia. Italian was great too and had ambiance. The people are fantastic - Asbel and Fanny - thank you! If I have to find fault which I don't like to do after having such a great time it would be the dinner reservations and the room size - that's it! Will go back again if the price is right.

Room Tip: Any room that faces inward to the property or the ocean will be satisfactory.

WOW! We planned on our experience being excellent based on the reviews but they simply did not do this beautiful stunning resort justice! My husband and I stayed here for 8 wonderful nights with two other couples. Upon arrival we were seated in a beautiful lobby where they took our passports and left to efficiently check us in while we were given cool towels to refresh and served champagne. They accomodated our wishes and put us in the same building #25 in the center per our request. Each building only has 16 rooms and it's own private concierge. Paolo(sorry if I spelled her name wrong) was outstanding and attentive. She greeted us warmly each day by Mrs. Ferreri or Mr. Ferreri. She fufilled all our needs. I recommend asking for her building #25.The service staff, the grounds, the beach, the 10 pools, and restaurants are OUTSTANDING. If you want a pool close to the the beach there of two of them. If you want a quiet pool in a tropical shady or sunny environment they have 8 of those to choose from! We were just in heaven and they made sure of it! A special shout out to Paolo our concierge(love her), Mario(love him) , Laura, Armondo, Frey, and Adrian(sorry not sure if correct) he did blackjack and Bingo by pool. Lots of fun! You guys do a great job as well as all of the staff members there. Keep up the good work. It is shocking that people actually complain. Terrible. Probably complain about everything in life. Some complaints said no entertainment-false. They had entertainment every night and it was fun. Also during the day too! Rest assured nothing to be unhappy about here. You guys rock!

Room Tip: I would stay in the center of the resort close to building 25 or request that building. It is in the...

backdrop- we travel at least four times per year, twice a year to the Caribbean and this was our third trip to Mexico.

Hotel- more of a classic hotel, not your splashy contemporary sleek ubermodern hotel which will look dated in five years. immaculate grounds. Pool large, no pool bar, but I think this is not the clientele they shoot for. Rooms were gorgeous and immaculate.

Beach- fantastic shades of blue. Silky sand, no rocks at the entry as we had at some other resorts. Shade is not an issue as there are palm trees at the entry and the staff drags out the shade covers and perches them on top of your chairs. it virtually eliminates the "towel game" we hate at other resorts.

Pool- smaller, but not an issue for us as we are not bog pool people.

Service- deligthful. Our villa (consisting if 16 rooms) had a concierge whose job is to take care of all the details. want to book a tour? schedule your return cab to the airport? Hector was right there, and the tour agency was brought to your door. The staff could not be more hardworking and attentive.

Location- good. Playa de carmen main strip is a 20 minute walk.

Room choice- all the oceanviews were sold out. we stayed at villa 26, which was a perfect location in the middle of the resort. right in between the breakfast spot and the main lobby, and we did not hear any of the noise form the loud next door resorts.

Food- best food we ever had at an all inclusive. The Grill was outstanding. Our main critique though was the breakfast- as good as it was , the waits were very long. They really need to find a solution for this and turn over the tables quicker.

Room Tip: do not face the edges of the resort as there are loud ones nearby. Villa 26 was a good middle loca...

The RH was recommended to me by friends who had visited late last year. Due to a prolonged winter in London we decided to take a last minute trip to the sun to get away from the cold. Its a bit of treck - 10hrs 30mins just to get to Cancun but cant do anything about that.

On arrival at the hotel we were greeted with cold towels and a glass of sparkling wine while the receptionist efficiently and quickly checked us in. The bellman then led us to out room bringing the bags at the same time so no waiting for them to be delivered.

The gardens are immaculate and very well-maintained and there is an air of peace and tranquility.

Our room was the "luxury" room - the lower end of the room selections but was large and well-appointed and was more than adequate for our needs. There is a large flatscreen tv which we hardly watched and a Pioneer i-docking station which plays an iPod and iPhone 3, 4, 4S and simultaneously charges them. Through a set of double doors was the bathroom which had a separate bath to the left with whirlpool features. A separate shower was next to the bath, double vanity sinks, then a door to a separate WC. Next to this door was a door to a walk in wardrobe housing a safe, robes and folding suitcase shelves. There was an umbrella and small hairdryer. The bathroom also had a set of scales which I chose to ignore for obvious reasons given how much I ate and drank that week - but there is a gym for those who are more motivated.

Now this is the only whinge I would say about the whole week but it didnt spoil anything and we worked around it. The hotel is very adamant that you pre-book and reserve tables via your concierge who sits in the foyer of each block of accommodations. On arrival at 5pm that Sunday evening the concierge had left and there was no way of making a restaurant booking for that night so we were forced to dining in our room with room service. Of course this was fine as didnt want a formal night after such a long trip but we felt the choice was taken out of our hands. The following day we sat down with our concierge after breakfast and made our restaurant bookings for the whole week. This was somewhat random but as we werent overly bothered about the time we sat down to eat we went with the flow.

There are five restaurants - all of which were amazing given the "all-inclusive" status of the hotel and I was really surprised how the staff managed to keep such high levels of service throughout the week. Having had experienced "all inclusive meal and drinks plans" in Barbados and Sharm el Sheik - this really was on another level and never ceased to amaze me at the lengths the staff would go to to please. My name was remembered by day 2 of arrival by many of the staff which I always think is testament to staff taking an interest in their clients.

For those who want privacy and want to be left alone then RH is a perfect venue for this but equally we found it very easy to chat to people and make friends and drinking buddies - so the mix is just right. As much as people were drinking quite a lot of cocktails and beers by day - I didnt see once anybody being in a regreful state and having been over-served!

I could go on and on about this place but will summarise below my thoughts on RH. Its strengths are the hard-working, enthusiastic and professional attitude of the staff - quite how they maintain this attitude amazes me but they were second to none. The grounds, gardens, pool areas and beach are beautiful, well-maintained what sets this place apart from the larger resorts in the areas and being a smaller resort makes it feel so much more exclusive. The room was perfectly comfortable, spotlessly clean and adequate for us given we were hardly in it - but I would imagine there is a limited shelf-life left on the bathrooms and will probably be in need of a refurb in the next 4-5 years as are already beginning to look tired and RH will find it hard to complete with newer resorts with new facilities.

Would I recommend this place? Absolutely. Would I go back? In a hearbeat.

Thanks RH for a great week.

Room Tip: I'd say stay away from the block closest to Allegria bar as people can congrigate there til at l...

We just got back from our 6 day getaway and had a fantastic time. The property is beautiful, the color of the ocean an amazing turquoise. The food and restaurants were outstanding (we are vegetarian and all the restaurants did a great job of accommodating our needs). We especially liked Azia, the Asian restaurant. The service is excellent, from the pool area to the restaurants. We were very happy with the attention we got from our concierge, Hector Medina. He helped us with any issue that we had especially helping us with dinner reservations and in helping us resolve a problem with our room. When we do return, we will definitely ask to be in Hector's building!

Room Tip: Rooms in the center area pathway are quieter. We heard loud parties from the neighboring resorts in...

My wife and I visited the RH for our 3rd time. It is a very nice resort and very relaxing. We stayed in a duplex suite this time and really liked our room. It has 3 balconies and each one had a great view of the property and ocean in the distance.

Rooms are super clean but could use some updating. We have stayed at many resorts in the area and the RH rooms are falling behind to some of their competitors. Service is great however, and the beach is beautiful. The ocean colors are fantastic here!

Will we come back again? Not sure. We like the resort but were not wowed this time. Secrets Maroma, Zoetry Paraisio, and Iberostar Grand are all excellent other choices. We do like the smaller size of RH.

I don't think you can go wrong if you choose RH. Ask for a room facing the middle of the property, make your dinner reservations before you arrive and skip the dinner show. It is a very relaxing, quite resort with great service and a wonderful beach.
