I work for a well known U.S. carrier that looks for 3 qualities when hiring folks because they feel if one embodies them then customers will keep coming back time and time again. These three qualities are Warrior Spirit, Servants Heart and a Fun LUVing Attitude and The Royal Hideaway has every last bit of them. This is truly why I keep coming back to them time and time again at least for the past 5 years.

Warrior Spirit- they don't stop short of fixing the problem, if you should have one, or having the answer your looking for. I have never had a problem personally but have heard guests that have and we're very satisfied with the outcome. The most extreme issue I heard was how the a/c was out in their room and the hotel Manager arranged for fans to be brought to the room while the issue was resolved and a room change of the problem was not resolved that day if not hour. In addition, they offered them a free massage as a way to relaxe and relieve the stress that the situation had caused.

This makes for a great segway into the second quality which is Servants Heart. At the RH you are not just a room number or another night stay. You are some they want to get to know more and help you have the best stay possible. From Sara at the front, to Eduardo at the Bar, to Isis at the Deck to Rosa at the Spa. They all will do anything for you and always with a beautiful smile on their face.

Now for the Fun LUVing Attitude, which can be seen at all times during the day. This place is quiet but that doesn't mean they don't know how to have fun. For the past 3 years I have met the same couple from NY their just by chance and ever time we play a game of Bocci. Currently NY is up on TX 2 games to 1. Anyway, from beach games to water aerobics to the staff signing "Love is in the air", they just make you feel relaxed and ready to have a good time. By no means will they pressure you to do anything, but they will be sure to check in with you and ask if would like to join in. At night they have a simple yet fun set of activities--karaoke, poker, bands etc., and at just the right amount where you leave happy but not exhausted.

As for food, drink, beds, spa, grounds, gym, pool, beach, all are incredible and whatever bad reviews you have read, these folks have issues of their own. This is 5 star and I would add a sixth if I could.

Thank you RH for always making me feel like someone very special even from the first step I take onto your grounds where I am always greeted by our friend Manuel. Planning my next trip and what better place to celebrate 15 years of being in love with my beautiful wife.

Thanks again!

This was our first visit to Mexico and chose this hotel mainly from the comments left by other people on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. The hotel is in a magnificent setting backing on to a white sandy beach. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the facilities second to none. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a stress free and pampered holiday.

What can I say, this is heaven. Been to Riveria Maya 4 times the n found this paradise. We were in the middle of the resort Villa 26(the most quiet). The staff are outstanding and welcoming and after the first day or two they somehow know your name and what drinks you like and have on tap for you all day.Our friends celebrated birthday and wedding anniversaries and drank champage all day in question no problem. Food is excellant, doesnt help the weight allowance on the return flights, as so much to choose from. The grounds are well looked after and everyone says "Hola". Roll on next year when we are hoping to return to PARADISE again.

Room Tip: Ask for Villa 26 and Upper floor

We had never been to this part of Mexico before or to the Royal Hideaway Playacar, but we definitely want to go back. In fact, we hated to leave! We had any and everything we could possibly want at the resort, from a wonderful ground-floor room with a view of the pools, the beach and the ocean from our patio; the fantastic food and drinks; the exemplary employees, the other guests, the scenery, the infinity pool and the ocean, everything! The employees were so professional, friendly and helpful, and anything you wanted, they went out of their way to make sure you got it. We had a glitch in one of our excursions, and the front desk concierge contacted the tour company for me and got everything worked out for us - absolutely wonderful of her. Each group of rooms has their own concierge so you can go to them directly, or the main concierge in the front offices. The restaurants are top shelf, and the food is delicious. We had to get used to the idea that we could have anything, or everything, on the menu if we wanted. I had a massage on the beach, and relaxing doesn't fully describe how it was, especially with the sound of the surf and the breezes. Superb! Just sitting by the pool, holding a Pina Colada (that seemed never to be empty), enjoying the view, the breeze and the water, was so peaceful. Everything was totally hassle free. I am running out of amazing things to say about Royal Hideaway, but I know there are many more remarkable aspects. If you every have a chance to go to Playa del Carmen, go to Royal Hideaway. You will not be dissapointed in anything.

Room Tip: We stayed on the east side of the resort in a ground-level"luxury" room. It was quieter, and the view of the pool, beach and ocean was awesome.

Hello, everyone. This is a large review, and I trying to cover all aspects of the hotel. Went there with my family (no kids).

Service. Above outstanding. They are super-ultra-attentive to every request or wish expressed. From check in, bell boys, waiters, and the always present concierges, you are always a few seconds away from a person who is willing to help you, with a smile.

Restaurants. All ingredients fresh, and high quality. Vegetables, poultry and many things organic. Vegegetarian, low carb options always available. Drinks / cocktails good. Top brand not always used, but available on request at no charge. On dinners, only top brands used. Standard wines ok, extra charge bottles of wine available.

A review for each one following:
Chef's table: a must experience for any foodie. A customized experience from chef Eugenio, with best available ingredients. He interviewed us, as a real pro, so each one had a different experience. Each plate was a masterpiece. Wine pairing designed for our palate and dishes presented. It's done in a private room looking at the cuisine, with a screen so you can observe the plating of all dishes. A note: it could get overwhelming for begginners, but even then, worth it as is a great introduction to chef's work. This is not a regular chef, but one trained at Bocuse's restaurant, among others. Do it, as it a steal at $100 per person, and the chef being with you explaining, talking during the while experience. Spectacular. 11/10

Ventanas: The signature restaurant, they have a la carte with 5 courses, or even a sampling menu. Excellent service, excellent menu, excellent taste. Not to be missed. Great atmosphere. Live piano music. 10/10

Breakfast (at spices). Very good. Fress fruits, salads, cheeses, ommelette station. A beautiful pastries station. Good coffee! Fresh, real juice. 10/10

The grill. As it is located on the deck (lunch restaurant) it may not appeal at the begginning, but has a terrific menu, and great flavors. All starters and salads top-notch. Salsas and garnitures on choice for a beautiful experience. 9/10, if you are ultra picky.

Azia: Great service. Food so-so. It is american-oriental. I mean, tastes like any good japanese restaurant - in the USA, but it is not the real thing. I understand anything too real would't be appeling to most american/canadian people. Particularly, the thai section misses the point of thai food: a balance of salty, sour, sweet and hot flavors. Sour and hot are missing here. Again, as many people couldn't probably stand it. Nice decor. 8/10

Spices: I am mexican. As the restaurant is. Again, I understand 99% of guests are foreigners, but if the point is for them to introduce to mexican cooking, they are missing the point. It's like any tourist place on the beach, you know what I mean? Not the real thing. Being in mexico, they should really know how to do it without offending sensitive tastes. Service is perfect. 7/10.

Palazzo: Had to be something bad, don't you think? I have to say I have been more often to italy than to the states, and been for many, many times. They have a manificent cuisine, but I have never tasted anything closer elsewhere. You want italian, go Italy. This place is like, uh, little italy in new york? You know, perfect for anyone who hasn't tasted the real thing. But dissapointing. The worse is the maitre d'hotel (the captain). This small person named Omar is not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. I left not happy at all. 4/10. (3/10 means unhappy and hungry). Vegas decoration.

The beach. Beautiful sand, blue and transparent water. No waves. If i had one complaint, is that the sport center guys are doing a terrific job of rening oll jet skys they can, so if you are swimming, they can be day-round, noisy as the worst, and polluting the air, so badly you could get stoned it you have the bad luck I had of one idiot that could get further away from our position than 100 yards, circling on the same spot for 1 hour.

The pool and gardens. Excellent service, good beverages. Very nice main pool, with several other smaller ones distribited arround the hotel. Jacuzzis are around there as well. Gardens are taken very good care. Nice animals roaming, as iguanas and agoutis.

The rooms are really nice, large bathrooms, all amenities present.

The guests: Average age, as expected, on the 40's and 50's. And I am so grateful I didn't found any drunk teenager screaming at night and throwing up in the pool. It is so relaxing. older people are really much nicer.

So if you managed to get here, congrats! Hotel overall? 10/10.
You wont be dissapointed. It is worth every cent spent. You wont be back to any lower-priced place after it. For getting the same thing in the states, you could easily spend 3 or 4 times as much, if not more. In new york, the concierge would expect $300 dollar or higher tips.
Go there. Relax. Be happy.

Room Tip: Choose on the middle. There are three lines of buildings. The south ones are the worst just because the are next to the following resort, which is noisy at night. The north ones, are next to other resort but not as bad as they don't have a night center.
