“Beautiful rooms in a perfect location”
Reviewed September 19, 2010

My husband and I stayed here for five nights early September 2010. We paid US$70 per night. We knew that the hotel was not in a quiet location so we were prepared for loud music each night. Just know that if you are somebody that likes to sleep around 10PM, forget it! (unless ofcourse you are a heavy sleeper). The bi-level restaurant directly across the street has their live mexican band playing right up until around midnight. Also because there is a bar opened to all hours on the top level, patrons walk right by your hotel room to reach the bar.

Hotel el Punto is a lovely boutique hotel in a great location right in the centre of 5th Avenue. Yes it is not beach front (but I guess prices might reflect this) but it's only one block to the beautiful beach. The hotel supplies beach towels. Agree with the other posts, tiny bathroom, but this didn't bother us too much. When you leave the hotel, you must leave your key with reception.

Block-out curtains, free wireless secure internet, modern a/c, flat screen tv, long table for luggage and great KING sized bed (I am currently "suffering" in a NY city hotel paying US$280 per night sleeping on tiny double bed).

I had an issue with my safe. It wouldn't open and I had valuables inside it (flat batteries). The reception immediately alerted the maid staff, she came up with about a hundred master keys for the safe and attempted to unlock it manually.

Gorgeous La Azotea bar upstairs. Reasonably priced food and beers. Great atmosophere.

Complimentary breakfast is served at Indigo Beach, 5 blocks away on 14th Street and Beach, right on the beach. Indigo Beach serve a buffet breakfast from 8AM to noon, a very basic: cereals, toast, cheese, deli hams, juice, tea, coffee. For US$6 you can upgrade to a hot breakfast. We opted to dine elsewhere (and pay) for 2 of our breakfasts just to get something nicer. I will certainly stay here again.

This boutique hotel is located on the main avenue of playa, 1 min from the beach, absolutely great location (also 5 min walk from bus station). the breakfast is really good, served on a beach club where you can then stay and get a sun bed / chair and towels (included). rooms are really nice and comfortable (we had a nice view of the avenue on 2nd floor). staff was helpful and they let us leave our suitcase there for 2 days after we left. we absolutely loved it.

Our first night in the region was spent here. Excellent location and a very helpful and friendly staff member at reception who spoke good english. The decor was very modern and currently in excellent condition - not sure how well the domestic style fittings will be looking in a year or so. On the down side our room was under the roof bar, and while street noise was limited by double glazing, the sound of chairs grating on your ceiling till 1am would have been an issue if you wanted to sleep early. But if you want a quiet location I am sure there are plenty without staying right in the midst of things - so up to you. Oh yes, and the wireless internet didn't work when we were there.

I'm from Las Vegas, Nevada and my city is known for having the best hotels in the world. When my boyfriend and I were looking for a hotel to go to Playa del Carmen we found "El Punto Hotel" the photos of their rooms which they are idential as the web page seem very clean and comfort sold us to reserve this Hotel. Upon arrival we were received so loving and smiling Cecilia Gigena at front desk. She was a great help and spetecular in our unforgettable stay. The hotel is economical, romantic, comfortable, clean and especially welcoming. Like my boyfriend, I have recommended the hotel to my friends and family and will continue. We will soon come back and stay once again. It is the place for couples without children because the place surrounds you with romance and tranquility. Before I forget, "La Azotea" restaurant has very rich food and economic drinks.

If you're looking for a place close to the beach and action of Playa del Carmen, this is an excellent choice. There is no pool, but do you really need one if one of the best beaches in the world is a block away?

Rooms are cozy and has all that you'll need: Big bed, Flat Screen, desk, safe, wi-fi, and view of 5th avenue. Yes, it may get noisy due to people buzzing along 5th avenue and musicians across the street, but that just let's you know you're alive. AND there's this really cool coffee maker that makes gourmet coffee and the refill cartridges are complimentary as well.

I've been to Playa seven times in the last three years and this is definitely the best boutique hotel I've stayed at. There's also a restaurant & bar on the top level that's action packed at several nights. PLUS, the hotel was kind enough to give us complementary breakfast at the beachside club just several blocks away.

Also, this hotel has the most beautiful reception staff in Playa. Always a pleasure to leave and go in the hotel, as well ask for towels & room keys. I don't know their names, but I just call them "Hermosa", "Presciosa", and "Bonita" and I get smiles out of them. (Look it up :)

Great hotel. Great location. Great Staff. PERIOD.

Just had a quick jaunt down to mexico from Texas and thought it was fabulous. To address a few of the previous reviews - The hotel is beautiful in an understated minimalist boutique way , so if your looking for gigantic overstuffed rooms and bathrooms with excess everywhere then this isnt the place for you. Probably not the best choice for families with young kids but then not many 'boutique' hotels are. Yes the hotel can be noisy at night - and the reason ? because it is in a prime location slap bang in the middle of ALL the life and energy on the main street, and a stones throw from the beach front ,so of COURSE it is going to be noisier than some of the hotels on the outskirts, especially since this is a much smaller hotel. You hear Mariachi, you hear people in the restaurants around, you hear laughing and singing, people dancing, drinking, enjoying themselves, walking from the beach. But isnt that why we go to Mexico? Of course it all dies down at the end of the night anyway, and honestly sitting on the beautiful balcony of this hotel room, looking at the ocean view, and watching and listening to the world go by below was truly an amazing highlight of this trip. Top that off with the staff being super friendly, and accomodating (and curiously all like supermodels as a sidenote?) , mixed with the complimentary breakfast at the stunning Indigo Beach, it all boiled down to a great trip that I would, and will, repeat again soon.
