Description: Mosquito Blue Restaurant and Lounge has been a trendsetter in Playa del Carmen, unequaled in quality and sophistication for both its menu and design. When it opened in 2003, the restaurant became the first in Playa to offer a chic gourmet dining experience on the popular 5th Avenue, in the heart of Playa del Carmen’s tourism district. A team of Italian chefs transforms ingredients from the Mexican Caribbean kitchen into a delicious Mediterranean Italian culinary experience. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Enjoy a superb collection of Italian wines carefully imported exclusively for Mosquito Restaurants.

“Don't bother”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

This restaurant is set on the main shopping street in plata del Carmen. The decor was nice but the food was truly average. The waiter spent minimal time with us but did get our order correct.

“Right in the middle of the chaos but excellent food!”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

Litterally on the busiest street in town but the food was out of this world and you could always opt for a table inside (they keep all the doors open so you feel liek you are outside anyway). Pricey but worth it.

“Beautiful restaurant, decent food, a bit expensive”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

Went on a Saturday night and what a great people watching perch we had, right on the main drag for plenty of people watching while eating a scrumptious meal. Second time there, will go back again for sure.

“Wonderful meal!”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

We had a lovely meal at Mosquito Blue. Shared a great cheese plate that included a fine (and generous) selection on cheese, as well as a pair of delightful jams to pair them with - red onion and green tomato. Different, but delectable, in particular with the goat cheese and various breads provided.

The wife had the good fortune of ordering the mushroom risotto, which that night had the option of being augmented with white truffle. It was the perfect blend of earthy comfort food with a haute cuisine kick. I sampled the local fresh fish - robalo - and enjoyed its simple preparation thoroughly, as well as the simple vegetables it came elegantly perched on.

The view out on to 5th Ave was perfect for people watching, and the service was courteous, professional, yet unobtrusive. We were definitely glad we decided to give Mosquito Blue a try!

“Better choices in Playa”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

There must be at least 200 places to eat on 5th Avenue and the side streets. Some are great, some are really good and others are ok. There is no reason to eat at one of the not-so-good restaurants, especially if it's expensive. Mosquito Blue is one of those NSG places. It's location is perfect for people watching (12th & 5th Avenue) and the service is very good. The food is, unfortunately, not. I've been in Playa a lot (this trip for 4 months) and have sampled a lot of different places.

My first, and only, experience with Mosquito Blue was with a friend that spends 1/2 the year in Italy and we were both thinking Italian. We should have gone to the Little Italy section of Playa (between 24 & 30th Street on 5th) but MB looked good. The eggplant app was overlooked and had way too much cheese on it. The biggest problem was with the pasta. One mouthful and I knew we had a problem...we both looked at each other and said "did the chef spill the entire container of salt in the sauce?" it was not eatable. We complained and, to his credit, our waiter took it away and brought us another dish. Apparently it was the pasta....same salty assassination on out palets. Others around us were making the same complaint.

We paid and left. Life is too short and there are too many other choices in Playa to enjoy a great meal?
