“Well worth the wait”
Reviewed December 19, 2013 via mobile

This place fills up quick, so get there early or you'll have to wait for a half hour. This place seems like a local favorite, family run place. No frills, but good local atmosphere. We ordered the shrimp ceviche which was awesome and a whole fried fish. For the fish, you walk next door and choose the fish which they weigh and you pay for before returning to the restaurant. I chose a large grouper, which must have weighed 5 lbs. and cost $14. They clean, score, and fry it for you. Very good. I will return...

“Thanks, Tripadvisor!”
Reviewed December 3, 2013 via mobile

We came here for dinner because of the Tripadvisor reviews - had it not been for that, we would never have walked in there. We probably would never have even found it!
It really is every bit as good as all the reviews say. Shrimp and crab ceviche was mouthwatering, we picked our own fish next door, which they then fried for us - and it was one of the best fresh fried fish we've ever had. Quality food, real local ambience and unbeatable prices. I would eat here anytime rather than at the 5th avenue tourist traps.

“Best seafood in town”

Hard to find but it worth the effort. Our favorites are Salpicon and fried whole fish. We keep coming back for it.

“Great food”
Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at a condo a half a block away from this place and could not find it since it's tucked away from the main streets. Our last evening we thought we have to try this place and asked someone for directions. This is a small hole in the wall place where they bring in their fresh fish on one side and have a small eating area (seats 20 maybe) on the other side. We walked in and the place was packed with all locals. The owner greeted us and made space for us. The locals all smiled and greeted us, we did the same. We ordered the large ceviche and a grouper plate. This was the best meal we had in the Playa. Wish we would have found it sooner. Could not finish the ceviche order and I love the stuff. Nothing fancy, a little intimidating, but great seafood and people. Going back on next trip!!

“One of The Best Seafood Meals We've Ever Had”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

We found this little local gem by asking our concierge for some good seafood restaurants where 'locals' eat. We were in town exploring and checked it out around lunch time - it was packed, so we decided to come back one evening for dinner (Oct. 23, 2013). You want to go there a little early, because when we got there a couple of other groups were midway through their dinner and the only other people that came in after us ordered take out. The margaritas were great, but the food was unbelievable. We live on Cape Cod and we know seafood. We had the Seafood Combo for 2 - lobster - the most tender we've ever had, shrimp prepared 2 different ways, grouper, squid sautéed in butter and garlic (to die for) as well as some that were fried, octopus prepared 2 different ways, along with avocado, salad, rice, beans. We took the leftovers back to the villa and got another meal out of it The leftovers even tasted just as good as the original meal.

This is a little family run operation - a fish market and restaurant. The waiter sat down and talked to us while we were waiting for our meal to be served and on the way out we received big hugs from him - looks like we're part of the family now.

We definitely will eat there again on our next vacation to Playa del Carmen.
