After reading many reviews and asking many people, locals, other visitors, and anyone who would answer we decide on La Casa del Agua to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. The decor was beautiful, service was good as well. But when we went to order our food the server had only negative things to say about what we wanted to order. The things that he did suggest where also the most expensive items on the menu. We wanted to share a variety of dishes and have it coursed out . My husband is a professional chef so when we go to special restaurants we like to try many things for inspiration. The things we wanted to order were: the tableside cesar salad, crispy scallops with risotto, housemade ravioli with cochinita pibil, and we asked about the steak served with the chef's father special roquefort sauce, the 10 hour slow cooked sake-mirin korubuta pork and the poblano chicken. According to the server none of those items were worth ordering. What he did recommend was the highest priced items on the menu such as the seafood platter for 2 even though we told him we want to try different things and the 16oz steak served with vegetables and mashed potatoes. We did not mind spending the money and had we order just the two most expensive items we would have spent order the courses that we wanted. I understand times are slow and the higher the check average the higher the tip, but I felt the server was just trying to upsell us and spoke very negatively of the food itself. He was not able to describe why the things he suggested were better than the 6 dishes we wanted to try other than "it is good". The server mentioned things such as it comes from a can, its not fresh, there is too much fat on this dish, the dish is small and the sauce is simple and just ok. These are words that no server should ever say to customers even if it is true. So since clearly the server was not proud of the food he was serving we decide to leave in order to salvage our special occasion. We did have the la casa del agua salad which was tasty and the crispy scallop with risotto. The scallop was raw/undercooked and smelled extremely fishy and the risotto was too salty and undercooked. The manager sent out a panna cotta which had a nice texture and was not too sweet. The manager/captain on duty handled the situation very graciously and professionally. Perhaps the food is here outstanding but according to this server do not order any of the things we asked about. After the server's negative attitude about the food we lost our appetite.

One of our favourite restaurants where we like to take our visitors. The restaurant itself is beautiful, very light and breezy. You can either sit looking down on bustling 5ta Avenida, or they offer tables on a terrace facing the other side which is very romantic, but also very dark!
The menu offers a lot of Mexican dishes, but also shows some international influences. You should make sure to leave some room for dessert. Their 3 chocolate cake is truly to die for!
Service is very attentive and friendly, prices are a bit on the expensive side in comparison to other restaurants, but the experience is worth it.
