Le Reve Hotel & Spa
Ranked #98 of 212 Hotels in Playa del Carmen

My husband and I spent few days looking for relaxation from the busy city life. If you are looking for a beautiful, secluded hideout to get away from it all, this is your place. While the food and service were good, the location is what sets this hotel apart. The place is away from the big all inclusive and crowded hotels and offers very good quality service. The walk to Playa del Carmen (1.5 hours) is very pleasant. The room was decorated with simple minimalist décor, with very roomy bathroom with a modern glass shower. Rooms don’t have television, which is a bonus!
The food was good, but with limited choice and after few days you might get tired of it. Also, the fitness center needs improvement, and there are no SPA services available other than massages and few treatments.
There are not scheduled activities at the hotel, which was what we were looking for. You can ask the front desk to organise excursions. Be prepared for the price tag - we find the snorkelling trip ludicrously expensive (although the experience was very good).

Le Reve Hotel was truly a gem. My girlfriend and I spent about 4 days there in January and we wouldn't hesitate to return. The staff was friendly and professional and the guys in the restaurant were helpful beyond the call of duty. The weather wasn't great when we were there - it was unusually blustery and cool - but it was still a glorious trip because of the setting, the comfortable rooms and bed and the quiet and privacy of the place. We were sitting in the restaurant drinking coffee trying to stay warm when Freddy draped a cover over my girlfriend's shoulders. It was a really sweet gesture.

The food was exceptionally good (and I'm a bit of a food snob from New York) and we ate every meal there except for a couple. The included all you can eat breakfast (get the chilaquiles with chicken and egg) and excellent coffee pretty much held us until dinner (try the delicious ceviche). And if we wanted a snack there was always beachside service.

The hotel is beautiful and feels very exclusive, yet it's also homey and casual. And it's very romantic. This was the first trip my girlfriend and I took together and it definitely helped to solidify our relationship. If you walk down the beach a ways you'll find a mega hotel where the beach was as crowded as Coney Island on a Sunday. We were really glad to get back to Le Reve.

The beach is gorgeous with soft, white sand but, swimming-wise, there is coral right up to the waterline. Fortunately, they provide water shoes, so if you just walk out a ways that's not a problem.

The place was not inexpensive but if you want a romantic trip away from the craziness of Cancun and Playa del Carmen (which is only a ten minute drive), this is the place to go. And we hope to go back next year.

My husband and I needed some vitamin D replenishing and relaxation. At Le Reve we found the hotel to be spotless, the food very good for the value and the service the best. The people are what draw us back to Mexico time and time again and the staff at this hotel was most delightful. The hotel is small in comparison to many others and not alot of action, but that's what we wanted. They did have a bbq on Saturday which was a delight. We met others who were looking for the same serene experience. Now, on nights when we needed a little diversion we went into town. One day we walked by the beach and it took 1.5 hours, but very safe and doable. Needless to say, we only did that once:) The only drawback I'll mention is that the beach directly in front of the hotel is rocky so you do need to walk down a bit. Oh, and the fitness center needs a facelift especially when the name of the hotel includes the word "spa". Other than that, we very much enjoyed out stay and would return.

My boyfriend and I went there for a long weekend and even though it was very short it was the most relaxing trip we ever had. We really wished we could have stayed longer. The location is gorgeous and very private since there are only 25 rooms. We rented one of the bungalows. Those are located almost directly on the beach with a little private whirlpool on their little terrace. At night when you lie in bed you can hear the waves so close and that was incredibly romantic. The food was really good and the staff was very attentive no matter where we were (beach, pool, restaurant...) or what we asked for.
Next time we'll stay for more than just a weekend!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Le Reve for a romantic few days at the end of our 10 day holiday in Playa del Carmen. It was great to get out of the hustle and bustle of Playa and experience this lovely beachside hotel. The place is amazing - it feels really intimate and tranquil as there are not too many other rooms. We were upgraded for free (at our request) to a horizon suite when we arrived which was great. The staff are all really attentive, knowledgable and friendly - nothing was too much trouble, even down to helping us carry the two person canoe into the sea! The hotel is beautiful - the pool was stunning and the room was great - minimal without being pretentious. A real highlight was the food - the best we had on our trip - delicious, authentic flavours and imaginative presentation, and really good value for the very high standard you get. Plus, breakfast was outstanding. We would go back in a hearbeat and wish we were still there!

My husband and I spent a week at Le Reve (2/7 - 2/14) and fell in love. The hotel is a little hard to find...but..once you do you know you have found a piece of paradise.... The hotel is an oasis of peace and calm. The rooms are beautiful and invite you to completely relax. We had a suite with a terrace which overlooked the pool and beach. I believe most if not all of the rooms do. The terrace needed an umbrella but really that is all! The beach is a great walking beach in either direction... going south you will find more secluded beachs and coves while north are more of the resorts...either way you come back to your little hideaway. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating...the food was good - although we ate most dinners in town or at the resort restaurants - breakfast and lunch were perfect. We enjoyed an amazing tiki torch dinner for two on the beach which was amazing... ask for the special Maya Margarita and enjoy this incredible escape! The only area that needed help was the gym as the equipment needed to be updated...but we were on vacation and walks on the beach were much more fun anyway!

You can't actually swim at the beach in front of this beautifully designed hotel because the foreshore is coral and rock. A walk down the beach means a view of chicken wire fences or huge resorts - there are far prettier stretches of beach further south.

At such an expensive venue we should not have had to listen to elevator music from the bar or landscaping equipment at 8 a.m.

The food is fancy but not very good quality and fairly expensive. And the place is much too hard to find - needs a more visible sign.
