“Consistently good food and service”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

We have been going to Amaro for over 9 years and have never been disappointed. Not having been there for a few months, we dropped in for lunch today and were pleasantly surprised by the fairly new menu. Indeed, they are branching out from the vegetarian cuisine with items like Angus steak on the menu!

Since we were only having lunch we opted for soup and the avocado stuffed with shrimp salad. While waiting, our excellent waiter, Enrique was very attentive, explaining how some of the dishes were made and then serving us our requested margarita and mojito. The Argentinian chimichurri (de la casa) was excellent with the whole wheat rolls.

Both the Sopa de Chaya and the Sopa Calabaza were creamy and had wonderful flavours. As always, the stuffed avocado was great and nicely plated.

Never having been there in the evening we will head back for Trova Night, which happens every night at 830 pm...

As for the ever changing artwork which highlights local artists...get over it! Not every artist can have their works displayed in proper galleries..... Thank You, Amaro for providing a venue for these artists...

“PIZZA for Lunch!”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

After a long morning and early afternoon shopping in the old Mercado on a very warm day, Amaro's was just a short walk away off the main Centro square in Merida. Though outdoors, it always seems to be nice and cool in their beautiful courtyard. My friend and I started with an order of guacamole and finished it off by splitting their delicious thin crust pizza. Have eaten here many times, and have yet to be disappointed in anyway. Ambiance, service, food....5 stars!

“Fine”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

The restaurant has a nice setup on a pretty courtyard, but there was also some weird artwork on the walls that didn't exactly add the the ambiance. I was annoyed that, without asking, the waiter went ahead and handed me an English menu, especially because it had such weird translations that I needed to request a Spanish menu so I could understand what I was ordering. The waiter was nice when it came to answering questions about items, but also forgot little things like his offer to check on the vintage of the bottle of wine we ordered. The empanadas were fine but not spectacular. I found the chaya crepes interesting, and not untasty, but also not worth getting again. My husband enjoyed his cochinita pibil. I wouldn't be opposed to eating there again, but I wouldn't be particularly excited about it either.

“good for vegetarians”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Nice meal here - quite a bit of choice and lovely live music. Pleasant food at a reasonable price. Whole page of vegetarian options too which was great for my boyfriend and I but plenty for meat eaters too it seemed.

“Vegetarian options in pleasant setting”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

I ate here a couple of times while in Merida, since finding restaurants with a good choice of non-meat options otherwise can be challenging. Amaro has a good range of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians, and the service is good and unobtrusive. The food is better than average, but Tripadvisor doesn't offer that option. A singer/guitar player entertained diners at night, while lunch in the outdoor courtyard is leisurely and quiet.
