Trotter's is fine. Is it "fine dining" not quite. It's on the upper end in Merida. I've live in Merida for 5 years. There's several restaurants in Merida owned by the same group. I'd say they all usually have decent food. But there's no certainty your food will be decent. I've gone and been disappointed more then once. Sometimes by the food, sometimes by the service and many times by the drinks. I used to dine at Trotters (or one of the others in this group- Trotters, Pancho's, Bryan's and La Tratto's) anytime I had out of town visitors. I've decide there are other restaurants with better quality control (and parking, parking is bad at all four with the exception of Bryan's), better options for local cuisine and better prices.
If you do decide these restaurants are "your thing" and you're going to visit regularly you might want to take advantage of their "dining rewards" card. It can be used at any of the four and after a 4 or five visits your get a pretty decent discount based on the average of your previous visits totals.
