Ive been eating these sorbets since i was a kid coming to Merida. They are perfect fro the hot summer days and nights. The Frozen blended fruits are delicious and must have dessert. The local in the main square infront of the park is great because there is normally a lot of activity especially on Sundays when the loca vendors come. There is also a very nice location on one of the main streets, Paseo De Montejo.
Some flavors include Strawberry, Melon, Coconut, Corn, Guava, Lime, Papaya, etc, they also have cookies and other desserts to choose from.

The cookies are some of the best I've had in a long time. Sitting at Colon to enjoy an afternoon or morning snack is quite an experience. The ice cream is only recommendable though.

The sherbets served here are very traditional and over all a natural sherbet made of fruits, no sugars added, no other chemicals to be afraid of. However, the glass of water served at the end is dangerous. The city water is only potable, the store runs the water through an old, but I mean old rock filtering system and chlorine added to kill the germs. I saw it with my own eyes and confirmed by a couple of waiters. I could never determine if the sherbets were made with such water, but very likely they are. Close your eyes, think of nothing and try the "corn" sherbet. Good!!!

As a frequent visitor to Merida, i have been sampling their ice creams and sorbets for many years. no need to add my voice to the obvious complaint that this place has no business being listed in the restaurant section. the annoyance of traffic noise and fumes i don't consider to be dramatic but may bother some people; to me it's just Mexico. likewise with the invasion of the trinket sellers and shoeshine boys. I'm glad someone else pointed out that the service is often arrogant or indifferent or lazy. you also need to check your bill. my pet peeve is that the portions have shrunken by about half in the last 5-6 years and the prices have doubled or tripled as well. it may well be that success has spoiled them, and that succeeding generations of owners have decided to test the waters in terms of what the traffic will bear.

Merida boasts a million people in its metropolitan area, and real restaurants which cater to most all tastes and budgets are plentiful. A restaurant is traditionally defined as, "A place where meals are served to the public." This is NOT a restaurant...unless one enjoys dining on mostly ice cream and sorbet!!! I suggest there is something terribly wrong with the TripAdvisor rating system when an ice cream parlor can be Merida's Top-Rated "Restaurant" or even listed at all. Perhaps there needs to be another category added.

That said, these ice cream parlors do offer a wide selection of flavors. We prefer their sorbets when stopping during especially hot weather. Because it can be interesting to sit at tables located on the sidewalk and watch the happenings on the Plaza as you enjoy your cold dessert, the location on Merida's Main Plaza is fun. But be prepared for the exhaust fumes and noise from the many vehicles passing in front of your table and the crush of people trying to navigate the sidewalk. And don't forget the vendors constantly invading your limited space. We find the servers at this location to be mostly arrogant. The location on Paseo Montejo is more tranquil and friendly...set amongst trees and further from the busy boulevard. The selection of flavors is the same, the sorbet still good...but still NOT a restaurant!!!
