“Excellent small hotel, perfect welcoming vibe”
Reviewed September 28, 2010

A wonderful hotel in a great location (quiet neighborhood very close to downtown Merida) that features the friendliest ambiance you could ever ask for. It is less like staying in a hotel than staying with friends of friends. The whole vibe is beyond welcoming into another world. After escaping the industrial tourism of Cancun, Hotel Julamis and Merida were a welcome change (all for the better!). You won't find more sincerely helpful and friendly hosts than Mel and Erid. This is a (I would guess not for much longer) hidden gem. If we make it back to Merida we will stay with Mel and Erid without a doubt.

In addition to what is been said, I think it is fair to add that this hotel truly reflects the style of a Merida house. My parents are from Merida, currently living abroad, and staying here felt like revisiting my childhood memories.
Open hallways with high ceilings were always a constant in the houses I visited when my family used to live in Yucatan.
Furthermore the service provided by Julamis staff was always sincere and amicable.

My husband, 17-month old son and I have just returned from a two-week road trip in the Yucatan... we stayed at hotels all over the peninsula and while all our stays were pleasant, our favourite spot was far and away our stay at Casa Julamis in Mérida...

Mel and Erid were warm and welcoming, and ever so helpful with tips for sites to check out in Merida... we were blown away by their hospitality, in particular, when I took ill on our second day there... they helped us find a doctor, translate for us and checked in on me to make sure I was doing ok, when my husband and son went out to take in some of the local culture... Erid even made me chicken soup and Mel followed up with us after we left to see if I had fully recovered...

our room, bedding, towels were all spotless, and our breakfast of fresh fruit, bread, eggs, juice, coffee/tea were filling and delicious... we truly felt at home and at ease, chatting easily with our hosts and our son playing with their dog and cat...

we were particularly taken by the hotel's art pieces (many by Mel!), beautifully designed bedrooms, bathrooms, common areas, especially the roof top lounge and plunge pool and the courtyard where we had breakfast...

Julamis has a boutique hotel feel, while also feeling like a second home, all at a great price, with unbelieveable service... stay here before all the guidebooks find it and there's a waiting list to get in! :>

My daughter and I had the best time discovering Yucatan and Quintana Roo. Julamis is warm, inviting, relaxing and feels like home. Erid and Mel as well as Kiko and Felix made the stay a memorable one. Very helpful in getting us all the information to make the best decisions for our trip. Simply the best. I can't wait to return.

As we walked into the Julamis, something was different. There was no " ÿour credit card please or fill in this form etc". Instead, Mel was more interested in helping us make our stay comfortable and interesting - from finding places to eat, things to do or directions around the town. Throughout our 4 day stay the service could not have been better - from organising tours (Uxmal, Celestun, Chichen Itza) and transport to our next city, to restaurants and directions. Nothing was too much trouble - Mel even translated some words into Spanish for me so I could send a postcard to family. We stayed in Suite de Ixil on the 2nd floor - a very large room with loads of storage space for cases etc, a fridge stocked daily with drinks (beer, water, soft drinks - at no charge), a good airconditioning system and separate bathroom and right next door to the outdoor balcony area - a great place for an early evening drink and chat. The location is also very good a couple of blocks away from Calle 60 and the Grand Plaza - and still within easy walk to Passeo Montejo. The only negative is that it would have been nice for the breakfast menu to have a bit more variety - but this is not really that important. Wifi only seemed to work in the lobby. Every night in Merida there is a public free concert or folk dancing. A great place to stay and really nice guys running the hotel. Dont miss this hotel.

We stayed at the lovely Hotel Julamis for 8 days as we used Merida as a base to explore the rest of the Yucatan. Wow, what a great find! The service provided before and during our stay was outstanding! Mel and Erid assisted with everything from arranging day trips, rental cars, buses, taxi's, laundry services, massages, restaurant recommendations and more, and always did so with smiles and extra helpful hints to make our journey easier. It was so helpful to know they were around and willing to help at all times. Our room was cleaned and the fridge stocked with cold drinks on a daily basis - this was a great treat when returning at the end of a hot day. Breakfast times were adjusted to suit our early schedule and while we found the food basic and repetative, it was sufficient. The roof top terrace has a lovely ambiance and candles are lit nightly to provide a relaxing atmosphere - a perfect place to end the day and unwind with a glass of wine. We had a truly wonderful time here, treated as friends rather than strangers and we cannot wait to return. Thank you again Mel and Erid for everything!!!
