Alex is a great cook and we didn't have better breakfasts anywhere else in Mexico. The rooms are tasteful and quiet, and there's a remarkable roof deck with a great view (and courtesy tequila--much appreciated). The hotel is close to a number of good restaurants and bars and a short walk to Ave. 60 and the main square (10 minutes). Alex is extremely generous and offered all his guests a beautiful New Year's buffet and endless bubbly on the roof deck: now how's that for hospitality? Very heartily recommended.

Very convenient location. Simple, basic, clean rooms in an attractive old building. A rooftop terrace for sunset watching. Breakfasts in the courtyard a high point. Best of all, your host (and chef) Alex will make your stay fun and memorable.

Room Tip: We stayed in Kekik, in the back of the building away from street noise

No need to look any further for the perfect hotel in Merida. My fiancé and I stayed at Julamis for 6 nights, and we couldn't have been happier to have found this gem. The rooms we stayed in were absolutely lovely; Alex, the owner, accommodated our stay by switching our rooms after a few nights. The location is perfect, and the breakfasts made by Alex can't be beat. He was beyond hospitable during our entire stay. He even drove us to a taxi stand at 4:30 in the morning when our taxi didn't show up for our ride to the airport! If we ever have the pleasure of returning to Merida again, we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: We loved Room Ixil!

First things first: I will be back and you should be too. This is the place to be if you expect more than the average hotel experience. Julamis is perfectly located in walking distance to everything you might want to do in the center of Merida. The colonial style house is beautifully decorated and features numerous wonderful wall paintings and the roof terrace has a perfect view on Merida. This is the spot where I would go if I was to write a book or just contemplate life.
The host Alex will take perfect care of you, and knowing he is a gourmet chef his breakfasts (if you can actually call them that) are spectacular. Mixed Fresh fruit plates, special yoghurt cups, different omelets every day, home made brownies, croissants with Alex's signature home made jam... You name it. Even free tequila tasting on the terrace every day.
Spending New Years at Julamis, Alex made a gourmet buffet (lamb leg with mushroom gravy, chilean seabass, and duck with truffles,
plus all the salads and fresh baked breads) with wine...all free for the guests in the hotel that evening. Plus at midnight we all went up to the roof to enjoy copious bottles of free champagne and to watch the fireworks all over Merida...all ending about 4am!
Simply wonderful, I can't wait to be back. Thank you Alex!

We stayed at Hotel Julamis over Christmas, and it was absolutely wonderful. The hotel is charming and clean, the owner Alex is an excellent host and had great suggestions for what to see and do and where to eat. My husband still says that breakfast became his favorite part of the day by the end of our trip. Every morning we had something different and delicious. The location of the hotel can’t be beat either. We easily walked to everything in the historic district and up to Paseo Montejo. We did one of the excursions, the one to Uxmal. It was all arranged by Alex and was a breeze for us. The tour company picked us up at the hotel and brought us back at the end. It was a great time. We’ve already said that we can see ourselves making this a regular spot in the future and know that when in Merida, we won’t stay anywhere else!

We recently were lucky to finally stay at Hotel Julamis - a total joy that really made our stay special.

Our host Alex was charming, attentive without being too intrusive and a wonderful chef who started every day off on a wonderful note with delicious and nutritious breakfasts in the Hotel's central garden.

We feel like we not only had a wonderful vacation, but made a true friend in Merida that we are looking forward to seeing again soon.

Thanks Alex for a wonderful and interesting stay. See you again soon.

If looking for a place to stay in Mérida stay here. if not for Chef Alex, the rooftop view, the Flycatchers at dawn. perhaps for being in solitude with all at a moment's call.
no worries wrt sleep. 1. tempurpedic at home is as compfortable as our room 2.Julamis is blessedly off the beaten track(no noise) ~~a close few minutes by foot put you in a quiet place.~~ we enjoyed watching the family celebrations at the restaurant below from the rooftop yet we were enclosed, no noise inside Jalmais.
not sure what to say about Chef Alex, in a short phrase "if there's ever an inn then it's Jalamis. if anyone's meant to be an innkeeper it's Chef Alex."
you'll want to go to the market...the flamingos...and don't miss Mérida on Saturday ....Sunday is spectacular [open air music in all the squares, the chocolate shop, the park chairs my wife and I could sit, truly wrapped around each other in conversation. the bicycles are free along the shut-off city streets. or stroll.] IT IS EXCELLENT.

oh, one thing. the food, breakfast is provided. take half of it with you for lunch. we shied at asking but we were afraid not to consume it all. no reasonable person can consume this; no reasonable person will leave this. You Will Remember this excellent place.
