“Fantastic hotel and staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012

I stayed at Piedra de Agua hotel in June for over a week. I love this little hotel. I booked a suite, which is well worth it to get extra square footage as some of the regular rooms are small. My room overlooked the pedestrian street and I could see the zocalo from my little balcony. The extremely high ceiling and colonial style decor combine to give a sophisticated "out of Africa" type of feel to the room. Air conditioning was great given the heat and humidity of Merida. The courtyard is amazing, and it was hard to force myself to leave it when I had to go into town for errands or meetings. Lovely pool and lounging area. Best part of the place: the staff. They could not have been more solicitous or gracious. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Book the larger suites. Internet rates very reasonable for the quality of the stay.

My daughter and I were in the Mexican Riviera last March and we decided to take a drive to Merida because I had heard so many wonderful comments about this capital city. We booked through Trip Adviser this hotel, not knowing much about the layout of the city or what to expect. The biggest challenge was driving through Merida and finding our hotel (even-numbered streets run in one direction, odd streets run the other way)! Once we arrived, the hotel greeted us, whisked our car away to be parked (absolutely impossible to park in Merida -- very pedestrian city) and refreshed us with fresh lime drink. The hotel features a courtyard, colonial style architecture hotel and is filled with pleasing details throughout. Our room had two canopied beds with 12' ceilings, mosaic tile floors, tall doors framed with detailed trim in dark woods. The room was clean and roomy. The beds comfy. That evening we had an appetizer and drink at their bar in the back near the pool where we watched the lights from the church tower grow more bright as the evening turned to night. The location of Piedra de Agua is THE BEST in town -- across from the Governor's Mansion and next to the Church square. I recommend the city carriage ride -- it's a bargain and very fun at night. We will definitely be back!

The part I will remember the most was the customer service. Whatever I asked was promptly and honestly answered. My son needed a wheel chair and Joaquin found one and picked it up within a few hours. The whole staff was very nice and friendly. Most were bilingual and always willing to help even walk you to a store in the area. The hotel was small but very cozy and had a nice pool/bar area perfect for a cool dip in the pool and drink after a full day. The free concerts in the evening were very nice. The location was perfect for walking the streets of Merida and visiting the beautiful parks. I would highly recommend this hotel for you next trip to Merida.

We stayed 3 nights and had 2 rooms with add'l family. What a beautiful place with even more beautiful people working there. I cannot say enough about the staff, such incredible service. From walking you to a store or restaurant a couple of blocks away to carrying my nephew in a wheelchair up a flight of steps. Never feeling that their being so heplful just to get a tip but just showing kindness. Joaquin,Andreas,Cassandra,Mr. Cool (love that name),Roberto,Daniel--the list goes on and on. The cleaning staff--I wish I can remember everyone's name. They really made all of us feel right at home. The continental breakfast was very satisfying. Great pool/bar area in the back with an incredible view of the church lit up at night. Pizza from stone oven great! Great location!!! I look forward to returning to beautiful Merida again and again and will always stay at the Piedra de Agua Hotel.

I found a good deal on Kayak for a weekend trip to Merida. The room I had was on the 3rd floor and was a bit of a hike without an elevator. But the hotel was so charming. My room was quite small but the bed was great and the decor was so very romantic that it was such a pleasure to stay here. The location was perfect being less than a block from the Zocalo & the Cathedral. At night it was nothing short of magical.

We just returned home after our stay of 6 nights at the Piedra de Agua hotel in Merida. The location was perfect, right off the main plaza. Our room was on the street side with a balcony and was surprisingly quiet when the door was closed. This was our first time at that hotel and we will definately stay there again during our next visit. The room was small but with the table and chairs on the outside terrace, our living space was extended. The terrace space in the back of the hotel with the pool and bar was beautiful, especially at night when the bar was lit with aqua/blue lights and the view of the cathedral was even more spectacular. We ate at the restaurant twice and the food was very good. What really makes this place is the service! Everyone was incredible but especially Joaquin Coronado who spent so much time helping us track down our lost luggage.

Room Tip: We stayed on top floor, room #309. There are a lot of stairs and no elevator.

Really nice boutique hotel, slightly small but lovely rooms!
Just a few minutes from the main square with a highly appreciated swimming pool and bar with view on the cathedral.
