Owner description: Sotuta de Peon, Live Hacienda, is the restoration project of a landmark located in the heart of the ancient henequen zone in the Yucatan state, and gives a true glimpse of what was once a fully operational Henequen Hacienda in the grand style and tradition of this period.

A working henequen plantation that preserves the hacienda way of life of the 19th century. The plantation continues to manufacture henequen used for the making of rope and clothing and offers a tour of the hacienda and plantation.
The restaurant has fabulous food prepared to suit any taste. Try the mixed platter of Yucatecan foods.

Our bilingual guide explained about life on the hacienda & the workings of the machinery to make rope from henequen plants. Touring the well maintained hacienda with its many period piece furniture was delightful as well as informative. The horse/donkey drawn cart around the plantation to the Mayan house with the old Mayan man describing his life work in his native tongue translated by our guide was interesting. Once again we enjoyed swimming in another cenote, life jackets included. Outside the cenote was a well planned "truck" bar with cold drinks. Then the return cart-ride to the diningroom where we all enjoyed a very good 4 course lunch before our return trip. We all felt that it was well worth the cost of the tour.

We honestly just read online that there was a cenote here that was kinda nice so we drove to it from Merida centro. We had no idea there was a full tour needed to get to the cenote. So we took the tour since that was the only option and we really liked it. Very educational and beautiful. We were shocked when we were asked to get on a trolley type train that traveled by rail and pulled by a horse. 1 horse power! It was awesome. If you want a true cultural experience with great food then do this day trip. I'd call it a History Channel type of trip. It's not a party but it's a step back in time. Tranquil and beautiful.

Hit all the marks -- excellent historical information delivered in a lively accessible manner -- fascinating demonstrations of the production & processing of sisal -- an important interchange with a Mayan man who brought to life the Mayan experience at this hacienda -- topped off by a delightful rail ride to a beautiful cenote for a refreshing swim. And -- a very good restaurant. This was a beautiful, carefully designed experience -- educating without pedantry. Thank you.
