We do a lot of traveling and fine some really interesting small restaurants where all the locals like to go. However, the word has already spread in only three weeks on this little place and it is no longer a secret. We had dinner last week with some friends visiting from Santa Fe.

The restaurant is small ( 8 Tables and 2 Bar stools). We tend to eat early and were lucky. Twenty minutes after we were seated there was a line waiting to get in. The food was fantastic (best linguini Carbanra I have had in a long time. Their two carne (meats) Ravioli was a winner as well.
You don't think "Pasta" when you think of the Yucatan, but that makes this place a winner.
The service, quality and quantity of food were outstanding and at reasonable prices. The wines are limited but good.
We returned a few days latter and had a great lunch. The metal chairs without cushions can get a little uncomfortable. But they have dessert to go !!! So make room for the crowd and take it with you.

I've dined at OIiva twice - once with my husband and another time with friends. I really love this restaurant. It is definitely cozy...not many tables so you may need to wait a while for one...but I believe it is worth it. The atmosphere is really charming. The caprese salad was absolutely delicious - fresh and perfectly served with just the right amount of olive oil. The lasagna was excellent as well. Wines are really nice. Service is great...you really need to give it a try if you are looking to go out for Italian. If there are only two in your party....try sitting at the bar on a visit. You can watch the food prep and chat with the chef.

A cozy little corner restaurant serving the freshest authentic Italian fare - lovely! Great wines and the panna cotta was amazingly fresh and perfect....a lovely option when you want to mix it up a bit away from Mexican and Yucatan food.

First this restaurant is brand new, 3 weeks old when we ate there. The food is original, excellent and the staff and owners very cordial and helpful. The restaurant is very small and the food prep. seems to make the restaurant very warm. Lets face it, boiling water for pasta and baking pizzas does make it warm! Homemade pasta, excellent! We had an app. of paper thin cured beef tenderloin, with arugula, diced beets and parm, with olive oil, well, just fabulous! I had the lasagna, which was made properly with bechemel, cheese, and a very light tomato and beef sauce, it was about the best I have ever had! The rest of our party were very happy with the ravioli and the carbonara on fettuchini.
The only negatives would be the very uncomfortable chairs and, the night we were there, the noisy crowd, and of course the warmth.
We will be back and try lunch, a lot quieter we understand since the crowd is lighter. Go for great food and just be aware of the few concerns I had.

I've never seen a restaurant take off in Merida like Oliva Kitchen + Bar has. The owner of Casa Lecanda, the well-received boutique hotel nearby, has started this tiny Italian restaurant, and applied the same professionalism and panache. Handmade pastas from a chef who happens to be from Rome! Who would have thought this would come to Merida.
