We planned a trip to the Yucatan with our daughter during her spring break. We contacted all the hotels we planned to stay personally, by phone, in Spanish. We had read interesting reviews about Casa Isidora. Three days before our arrival we called again to confirm that the reservation was in place and advised Antonio that we would be arriving in Merida after 10 pm. He assured us that they would wait until midnight for our arrival. Upon arrival in Puerto Progreso and the hotel, everything was dark. We rang insistently and the lonely guest, a mexican national came to talk to us through a broken glass pannel in the door which was locked. Nobody else was available. Well, imagine flying from Ohio which we left at 7:30 am, to arrive to nothing at 10:45 pm. We of course were not able to stay in this place, and found another hotel where we spent two days.
We have traveled through the world for decades and never found a situation like this. Be forewarned.

I and my family , spouse, 2 children and grandmother spent a wonderful week at this beautifully renovated beach hotel.
It is probably the best value for your money anywhere along the beach. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I loved the fantastic floors and high ceilings. The building has definitely been restored to it's original elegance over 100 years ago.
Suggest you go there. You will LOVE it.

Casa Isidora is beautifully located less than 1 block from El Malecon and the beach. That is the best thing about this hotel.
The 2nd best thing were the 2 employees- they received us warmly, knew who we were and very, very helpful. They were always working, so therefore a little hard to locate.
Bad stuff- they never gave us the key to the safe, and coincidently my friend's Ipod turned up missing in the next town.
Also- the cleaning lady was not friendly at all and it wasn't a language barrier either because we all spoke Spanish.
One morning it took us forever to find an employee so that we could order breakfast. Suddenly the gardener is the cook and he goes behind and comes out later with some fruit and toast. When we wanted to order a breakfast he once again disappeared and we never did get breakfast. While we were lounging and relaxing 2 different employees came and asked us when could they clean the room. The "rules" say by 1pm, we were clearly going to have made plans by then, but then they asked again, and we said by noon we'd be gone. As we were in our room getting ready- they knocked again, wanting to know what time they can clean our room, and it was merely 11 am. So that sort of cleanliness goes beyond being appreciated.
Make sure you get there before "curfew" when the gates get locked because the key to the gate wasn't working for us. Luckily there is a bell to ring and someone can come get you.
Aside from that there was nothing neither wrong nor special with the place. It was a good price and a great location.

My wife and I stayed at Casa Isidora for three nights. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the welcoming, warm atmosphere from the owners, Marion and Peter. At the conclusion of our stay, we felt like we had visited with family. Marion and Peter and their entire staff were friendly and very helpful. Our first night, we preferred to stay at the hotel and not go out for dinner. Marion told us dinner would be prepared for us. Being vegetarians, we didn't want to trouble them being that it was already later in the afternoon. Marion said "if you could wave a magic wand and have anything you wanted, what would you have." We were treated to a sumptuous vegetarian delight of pasta, fresh vegetables and cream of spinach soup. The rooms were very clean. The bar was open and we helped ourselves to cold beer, only having to settle up at the end of the stay. They were all so informative and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

We are sooo happy we stayed at Casa Isidora. Our dog loved it too. Quaint old beach hacienda has been updated into modern international hotel. International TV, telephone, and internet. Rooms are spectacular. Food and bar are best in town. ONLY Health department approved restaurant.
Stay there. You will say thank you.

Listen up Canadians,
If you are in Progreso you must stop in at Casa Isidora. Its run by a Canadian/American husband and wife team and if you are craving news of home you can sit down with a drink and enjoy you favorite Canadian shows on their satalite TV. Also there are other folks just like yourselves around the place using the free internet service or having a meal in the restaurant. We took Spanish lessons there in the shade in the courtyard with their wonderful teacher Yonathan. Peter and Marion (the owners) also helped us figure out the phone system in town and solved some other mysteries we had questions about concerning the local culture. Its a great place!

Once again we came back to Casa isidora in Progreso.
This hotel just gets betetr every time we visit. The rooms are spotless and the ambience is warm and friendly. Inetrnational TV, internet and inetrnational direct dial telephone(only one in Progreso) makes this place a wonderful home away from home.
The clientele is becoming more exclusive all teh time. Cheaper places can be found but nothing better. Like they say , you get what you pay for.
