“little hidden gem of Merida”

My friend and I stayed in this hotel recently. We were greeted by very warm friendly staff.
When trying to book a tour through them, they were very knowledgeable and when in doubt they were able to recommend.
Breakfast choice could be better but the atmosphere amongst other guests was very pleasant and everyone shares their experiences with one another around the table.
The rooms were basic but really you don't need much more and the wifi connection was fast.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel.

I didn't think that Merida was a particularly noteworthy town (when compared with the interesting San Cristóbal or pretty Campeche), but staying at the Peregrino enhanced the Merida experience for me. The hotel is central enough, it has a lovely courtyard kitchen where you can make your own meals within a relaxed atmosphere, rooms are good with tv (and clean) and Alexander (in English) is just so lovely and helpful. Prices are reasonable too. Rooms on the balcony are nice (more expensive but worth it) but you will have road noise (we didn't find it excessive though). Loved our stay in Merida because of this place. They are also very helpful in suggesting itineraries.

Room Tip: Rooms on the balcony are more expensive but worth it as they don't face into the courtyard (alth...

Of course, I'm just assuming that it's the best hotel since I've only stayed in one other hotel in Merida. ;)

Fiona, Alejandro, and Fernando all work at the front desk and are extremely helpful, friendly, and are great additions to any hotel. Irma works in housekeeping and keeps the rooms and common areas spotlessly clean. We would return just to see the staff again!

The hotel is small but well designed and the room was perfect. We intended to stay here for 1 week but extended our stay for the entire 2 weeks. Toward the end of our stay we discovered how easy and cheap it was to travel by bus and collectivo. Had we known this at the start of our trip we wouldn't have booked so many tours with Mayan Eco-tours through the hotel, but we have no regrets. The hotel is a short walk to the main plaza and only a 20-minute walk to Walmart (closest place for food shopping with lots of variety).

Our room was on the 2nd floor and was really quiet. The kitchen was a definite plus and was the main reason we chose this hotel. We met some nice travelers while we were there and had a great time.

Room Tip: Try to stay on the second floor if at all possible

While we were underwhelmed by Merida in general, the Hotel de Peregrino was very nice. Jim and the rest of the staff bent over backwards to make sure our stay was comfortable. It is very apparent that Jim takes pride in his hotel and takes very good care of his employees. The price can't be beat and the location is perfect for walking to the central area of the city. We felt very safe walking through the neighborhood at any time of the day or night.

Our adult children stayed on the first floor facing the street and we stayed at the very top, also facing the street. Both rooms were very nice and none of us noticed any excessive traffic noise. The rooms have air conditioning as well as fans which keep them very comfortable. The rooms are not luxurious, but are nicely decorated and functional. The continental breakfast included juice, coffee, cereal, fruit, toast and yogurt. It was simple, just the way we like it.

When I first sat down on one of the beds, I immediately thought it would be too firm and uncomfortable. It turns out we all slept better there than in our own much softer beds at home. We stayed at three separate hotels in the Yucatan. They all had very firm beds but I don't consider that to be a problem.

The one constant issue we had in the upstairs room was the septic smell coming from the shower drain. We had to keep the bathroom door closed and the fan inside the bathroom on day and night. Jim explained to us the system they have in Merida that causes this, but since the downstairs room did not have this problem, there must be a way to resolve it. If it weren't for this problem I would have given this hotel five stars.

Mexican plumbing leaves a lot to be desired. We ask our guests when they check in not to put paper products down the toilet but inevitably some forget or are totally negligent as we once had to extract a diaper. This combined with the sheer volume of guests at Christmas made for a special circumstance where odors were escaping from shower drains because of blocked pipes.

The problem has been resolved.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at this hotel on two separate occasions. We have enjoyed both experiences. The hotel is quite gorgeous with it's colonial style architecture. Our rooms were very clean and colourful with AC, fan, bathroom and TV. The staff are extremely helpful. They helped us translate spanish, book taxis and gave us loads of information about Merida plus everything else. The hotel is very quiet and located within 10 minute walking distance of the town centre. The breakfast buffet consists of fruits, yoghurt, toast, pastries, juice, tea and coffee. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Merida.

Spotless little hotel, full of character in the heart of the historic area of Merida. This hotel is full of charm, the beds are comfy and the hotel staff is great. The free breakfast was nice and they have a great little kitchen to use if you want to make your own meals. Would highly recommend this little gem.

It was hard to leave after a week as it started to feel like home. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful yet professional. We enjoyed having use of a kitchen and the included breakfast was very good. We enjoyed our stay! Highly recommended.
