I will point out at the beginning that my wife and I know the innkeepers. We stay almost exclusively in B&B and boutique accommodations and have come to know what to expect. I feel that I am being fair and accurate in this review.
Villa Verdi opened for guests Feb 1 this year. The owners spent a year and a half bringing the site up to their standards. One owner comes from a career in hospitality and the other from a career in architecture. The result is an inn of truly uncommon service, beauty and attention to detail. We were in a serene world of peace and quiet with every need seamlessly met. The comfort of the surroundings is a true strength of the inn from the door through the wall at the street, to the accommodations, to the patio and pool area, to the sitting garden at the back of the property. Cool breezes and shade create a comfortable atmosphere for the several very nice seating areas around the public spaces. Merida can be quite hot, so this arrangement is most welcome.
Cocktail hour is 6:00 pm daily. Guests receive a complimentary glass of wine or cocktail. Beyond that one can purchase additional refreshment. It is a treat at just the right time of the day, since many things (dinner, shopping, museums, strolling) begin later. Think Chicago where early dinner is 8:00 pm. The inn's location in the historical district puts the visitor within easy walking distance of some very fine restaurants, plazas, shops. Merida is one of the two safest cities in Mexico. One can move about at any time of the day or night safely.
The owners will research tours and book anything you might wish to do. Everything is handled in a professional and tasteful manner.
Take a dip in the pool at any time. It is both relaxing and invigorating.
Breakfast is included and is best described as gourmet. This is the first time I have had marinated (in sour orange sauce) portabello mushroom, thinly sliced ham, egg and cheese. It is quite delicious. Portions are ideal.
To sum up, then, this is an inn of uncommon authenticity, beauty, impeccable service, comfortable surroundings, delicious food, and outstanding hospitality. Book early, go there, be impressed, enjoy every moment there.
