“Gorgeous Inside and Out”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

The whole approach and plaza, reminiscent of a Mayan pyramid, is amazing. The steps up to the plaza have an Escher-esque quality which conceals the universally accessible ramps. The Mayan heads, each from a different artist, are completely arresting. We spent at least 30 minutes and hadn't even got to the building yet! The artifacts are terrific and the displays are fantastic. All of Mayan history is covered, beginning with the Big Bang. However, brush up on your Spanish - there's no English here. We don't speak Spanish and loved it anyway.

“Too Much To See and Do”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

I visited this Museum and felt overwhelmed. It is a huge space and many different aspects of the Mayan Culture are explored and explained. From the beginning of the Mayan Culture to the present day. Unless you know something of this culture it is confusing and I felt overloaded with information.
This is a new museum and it is pretty modern and huge. The display halls were spacious and well lit and the displays were well signed. I think to keep people from feeling overwhelmed, the displays need to be interspersed with music, dance etc.

Tells the whole story of the Mayan people, and really allows you to appreciate the actual historic sites even more.

“A amazing presentation of the Maya from past to present”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

We had heard this was a wonderful museum and we weren't disappointed.
Pros: admission is very inexpensive, especially compared to US / Canadian standards. We were guided to the different areas that represented the life of the Maya from earliest times to the present. There is much to see and we would recommend going early so you can spend as much time as you'd like looking at all of the displays and reading about the history. Most of the exhibits had written information in English, Spanish and Maya. This is an amazing museum and should be missed.
Cons: This is a new Museum and this is definitely not a criticism but there are a few things that I think would make it easier for non-Spanish speaking visitors. We were there because we love Mexico and want to learn more about the Maya culture because of it's extensive influence. It would be great to have some guides to do walking tours or attendants to answer questions that knew some English as they do in other major museums around the world.

“not so convenient but well worth it”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

out of the way, very expensive admission fee, and hard to maneuver unless you ask for a map but the mayan collection is really outstanding ! Unfortunately, some of the exhibits only have spanish explanations, but they are written in clear easy to understand Spanish.
