We spent 5 nights at Casa del Maya as part of a 2 week vacation in the Yucatan peninsula. The Casa is in a quiet neighbourhood close to the centre ideally located as a base from which to explore Merida. Steve and Jordy are the ultimate hosts. We were welcomed with a cool glass of white wine and provided with lots of information about things to do and places to eat. Jordy is a great chef and his breakfasts are a real treat ; every morning a new surprise. They also make every effort to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and to introduce you to the other guests.
Very good value and all that a B&B should be.

My partner and I stayed at Casa Del Maya for 2 nights in January and had a fantastic time. Jordy and Steve are attentive, knowledgeable, warm and welcoming hosts. They gave us many helpful tips about Merida and went out of their way to make us comfortable (welcoming us with a cold pool side beer and making me a special lime concoction when I wasn't feeling well!). We enjoyed all of our chats with them and were very impressed with the delicious breakfasts that they prepared.

The property itself is a beautiful, quiet oasis very near the center of bustling Merida. The room was comfortable, clean, and tastefully decorated. I can't say enough good things about our stay at Casa del Maya and will definitely be coming back and recommending it to all of our friends!

Steve and Jordy offer guests a level of hospitality, generosity and kindness that is a rare commodity these days. Breakfasts were a highlight because it was an opportunity to meet other guests and exchange ideas.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights over New Year's and had such a wonderful time! Steve and Jordy are incredible hosts and have made something really special in the great city of Mérida. It's hard to believe they've only been open for a year! The property is beautiful, serene, and very centrally located. We will definitely be coming back soon!

Getting from the bus station to the casa: by taxi (40-50 pesos) 10 min. drive
Location: northern outskirts of old town and only 15 minutes by walk to the centre of old town, I would say it is better to stay on the outskirts of old town instead of in the centre because is less noise
Welcome-in: we feel like we have visited a good friends abroad
Room: on the first floor, 1 room, toilet wit shower, nice decor, clean, quiet
Patio: small pool perfect to cool down in hot days (not for swimmers) with sunbeds, dining area, rest area, all patio is well maintained
Dining - Breakfast: delicious, Jordy is Masterchef
Kitchen: open for everybody, you may use all the facilities to prepare or store your own dishes
Other: many magazines, travel guides, maps about the Yucatan region, also few games to entertain you at the evening

Steve is the perfect concierge. Ask him about anything. Our son (age 4) ask for cocoa milk and he did every morning:-)

We enjoy hosting our guests from around the world and learn so much from you. Making our guests feel welcome and comfortable is very important to us. Also, since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we're so glad you enjoyed our offerings.

My husband and I stayed at Casa del Maya for a week. This is our first time in the area.

The location:
Casa del Maya is situated about a few blocks northwest of the main downtown Merida area (where the Zocalo, the government buildings, etc., are) and is quite close to Paseo de Montejo, which is the big avenue with gorgeous old buildings on each side, and some newer, trendier restaurants.

The hosts:
Steve and Jordy are both very warm and welcoming. We spoke more with Steve - he's always up for a good conversation about Merida and things to do, and Jordy is very nice as well, and makes delicious cinnamon buns fresh every morning. They both got up at 4:30am when we had to leave and made us coffee and packed some cinnamon buns for us. That was much appreciated. We were there for Christmas and Steve and Jordy gave us Christmas presents (delicious chocolate bars and a Casa del Maya keychain), which was so thoughtful.

The room:
We stayed in the Ixchel Room, which was lovely - big, comfortable, with a great shower that has a rainfall showerhead. Loved it. Also, the bed is amazing - firm yet not hard. It's the most comfortable bed I've slept in, including my own at home.

The only thing I'd mention is that if you are a light sleeper, perhaps consider the casitas in the back or bring ear plugs / sound machines. The Ixchel Room is right next to the breakfast area and you can hear the outside noises pretty well, even with the windows closed. It wasn't a huge bother during our stay, but we were woken up a couple of times by people walking to the breakfast area, talking in the breakfast area, etc. As the earliest breakfast time is 8am, this can be a problem if you want to sleep in. We solved the problem by getting up earlier so we have more time to explore Merida & surrounds! :-)

Summary:
Casa del Maya is a lovely place to stay for a few nights. Steve and Jordy are personable and easy to reach, and we would be happy to stay here again the next time we are in Merida. My husband said it's his favorite BnB ever.

We're so glad you enjoyed our great location between Paseo Montejo and the Plaza Grande within walking distance of Santa Ana, Santa Lucia, and Santiago Parks. A good night's sleep for our guests is very important to us so we're especially glad you found your bed and room comfortable. We hope to see you at Casa del Maya again soon.

Steve and Jordy are fabulous hosts. They both stayed up until 2am to greet us warmly when we arrived (our flight was very delayed), not showing any concern over the late hour. They are very engaging conversationalists, and very, very helpful. They have very high standards for hospitality, and always give you the impression that nothing delights them more than talking to you. I'm not exactly sure how they pull this off, as they have no hired help and run the entire show themselves. They take great pains to introduce all their guests to each other, which is both very kind and very helpful, as invariably you encounter a guest who has interesting travel stories to share.

The rooms themselves are a sea of tranquility. The lots on either side have returned to jungle, so the rooms are surrounded by lush vegetation and the sounds of birds. It definitely feels like you are in an oasis in an otherwise busy city. In the upper rooms of both of the bungalows, you feel like you are in a tree house.

I highly recommend this B&B!

We were happy to host your family during your holiday. We try to create the feel of being in a peaceful Maya village right in the center of Merida and the vegetation surrounding us helps make that happen. Also, one of the things we like most about operating a B&B is listening to the adventures of our guests. We'd love to see you again at Casa del Maya.
