Luz en Yucatan has so much to offer. the overall feel of the place is intimate and enchanting. The staff has always been helpful, accommodating , and friendly. Though the hotel is small, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. We have stayed in the large family room upstairs. It is amazing with an open kitchen and a bar. But, even when without this room, there is a communal kitchen next to large dinning table, a plus with a large family.
The location is perfect for walking to the grande plaza and Paseo de Montejo. For a leisurely Sunday bike ride through the streets of Merida, there is a pop-up bike rental 1/2 block away.

Room Tip: If you have a large family, they have one with 4 beds.

...TA needs to add a 10 Star Rating!

Honestly, I am hesitant to give such a glowing review, since it may affect my ability to book a room in the future... If everyone finds out how awesome Luz is, It will be booked 5 years in advance!

Luz En Yucatan has raised the bar when it comes to excellence in running a hotel. Owner Tom and his marvelous staff provided my best overall experience of any hotel ever! Tom and crew serve as True Ambassadors of Merida. They made my first impression of Merida a stellar one. Never have I felt so welcomed in any city or any hotel...Never!

The property and rooms are beautifully done in Colonial Style, and are impeccably maintained. Guests will find a complimentary Adult Beverage Cart in front of the office, and a couple of ice cold local beers (Montejo) in the ensuite fridge, a full 4 liter bottle of purified water and a coffee pot with everything you need to start the day off right. The only things missing were a Breakfast Pastry and a soda vending machine for drink mixers. (but hey, 99.9% perfect is perfectly acceptable to me)

If you want to know what Heaven is really like,.. Make your reservations NOW for *****Luz En Yucatan!*****

People will now have to say: "I've Died and Went To Luz En Yucatan!"

Room Tip: Look no farther than Luz En Yucatan! This is THE PLACE THE PLACE TO STAY IN MERIDA! Bring your own sodas/drink mixers and breakfast pastry. Tequila and Coffee are on the house!

Ok, it's officially Casa de Luz, the house down the block from the hotel, but it's wonderful nonetheless. Well appointed, designed, and built, the house has everything you need for a pleasant visit to the nice colonial town of Merida. Kudos to Tom for a job well done.

Room Tip: If you want a room, then talk to Tom. If you want a house.. talk to him too!

We visited Merida last year and were looking for a place to relax while at the same time immersing ourselves in the charm and culture that makes Mexico and Merida special. The Luz was ideal for that. It's maintained the colonial charm and warmth that makes this part of the Yacatan special. If your looking for a "five star" resort look else where but if your the adventurist type, with a little romance in your blood and want to get a feel for Merida and its charm this is the place for you.
Being centrally located in town close to the Plaza makes it really easy to get around. You don't need a car, there is a little plaza down the street for your enjoyment and a tour company a block away to take you on a tour of the city.
If your looking to visit Merida to explore its charm this is a great place to start.

It is very hard to find something positive to write about the Luz - that has not been written already! It is a great little hotel, in a great location, where the owners have pretty much thought of everything that will make your stay special.

The Luz is right in the heart of the old city and finding it is a challenge. But that feeling of triumph when you walk in the door so makes the effort worthwhile! The whole building feels airy, cool and peaceful which is a great relief coming in from the heat and bustle of the city. And that pool is just wonderful for falling into, while retaining your bottle of beer in the upright position!

Everyone mentions the freeby bottles of beer in the fridge and the trolley of bottles in the hall, which say a lot about the ethos of the Luz, but other nice touches are the coffee machine and the water dispenser in each room.

Tom and Donard have created a great little hotel here. Do not be misled by the quirky website, these guys know their business and have really got it right with the Luz.
