“Porterhouse for 2 - perfectly done & juicy”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

I am fussy with my steaks - I like my beef almost rare but hot not cold. This one was absolutely one of the best I had...If you don't mind sharing (It was a HUGE steak) Both side of the TBone were cooked right, even the huge filet

Next day and I am still thinking about it...

The green salad was perfect side with it. I had a bit of problem reading the Spanish menu but that's my fault not theirs...

“Best Steak I Have Ever Had”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

La Rueda is in a really small street and we wouldn't find it that easy if we didn't take a cab. The open hours are from 12:30pm to 5:30pm for lunch and dinner begins at 7:30pm, until 12:00am; so don't go there too early.
We ordered salad and that was perfect! The salad sauce was special and the lettuce tasted so good!
The steak was excellent. I asked for rare, even though the outside looked well done, inside was with blood, which was my favorite.
We asked ice cream as desserts. Perfect!

“A new addition to my favorites list”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Visited a couple weeks ago for lunch becuase i was caving a good steak. Needless to say i was not dissapointed. I had the ribeye and a bottle of argentinean malbec. The steak was cook to a perfect medium rare just as requested. the 350 gram steak was perfect for my hungry appetite that day, however there are smaller portions of different steaks. The sides were delicious, i deffinately recommend the garlic mashed potatoes and sauted veggies. The wine was chilled and absolutely great.
the decor is not over the top, Its a residential home that seems to have been converted to a very nice restaurant. there is outside seating available but we opted for the AC inside since it can easily reach 100 degrees F in the summer months.
I recently returned this weekend for dinner, and again, we had an excellent time, this time with a larger group, but nevertheless the service and food were as good as can be expected. Definately recommended

“For our red meat fix...”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

When we crave red meat in Merida, which is not often, it means a trip for dinner at La Rueda, a gaucho grill. There are two locations, but we have always gone to their original restaurant in the Yucalpeten neighborhood and in a totally different part of the city than the address shown on TripAdvisor's listing. We understand that the original is the better of the two - smaller, more personal and quieter but much further from the normal tourist haunts. Probably best to get directions when you call to confirm when they will open on the day you plan to dine and/or to make reservations...or just catch a taxi :-) This visit, we shared a starter salad (to help ourselves feel better about all the red meat which we were about to consume). And then the better portion of a cow arrived! Although there were four people in our party, three of us decided to share the tenderloin serving for four. Not only were we completely full after consuming more than we should have, but there was at least as much left for us to take home. The prices should definitely not be described as inexpensive or even average, but one gets what one pays for...and we got incredibly-delicious, perfectly-prepared beef tenderloin.! If you are ok with eating early and before the crowd arrives, then arriving shortly after the opening bell is best. We arrived at exactly 7:30pm to a full selection of tables, and when we left, only one other table had been seated. Much better than standing outside to wait for a table as we've seen during some previous visits. Enjoy a great meal!

“Near the top of our list!”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

We have had the opportunity of eating at both locations in Merida over the last several years. The one off Prolongacion Montejo is a much larger place and we found the noise to be excessive even when it was almost empty the night we were there!

Our favourite of the two is the much smaller and original restaurant in the west end not far from the new Walmart at the Avenida Canek exit. The actual location is on Merida 2000. Coming from the west on Itzaes, turn right at the Soriana store and travel about one kilometre south. You will pass a large 'knoll' and just past that is the turnaround for La Rueda on the opposite side of the boulevard. In the evening they open between 7 and 7:30 pm. It is a small restaurant so you might want to make a reservation. They only sell beer and wine, no mixed drinks.

Their specialty is Argentinian beef. Two people can easily share the starter salad! The menu is fairly extensive - everything from hamburgers to filets, all exceptionally well prepared to order on the grill. In fact, the hamburgers are outstanding!!! They sometimes have lamb as well.

The wine selection is limited but try the Terrazas de Los Andes at 400 pesos and you won't be disappointed. The mark up is very small compared to the price at Costco! The waiters are attentive but not overly so. We normally have Fidel and he knows what wine we drink the moment we walk in the door!

Yeah, it's a little far from Centro Merida, but worth your time.....treat yourself!
