“Great lunch place”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

This is one of those places were you can see more locals than the tourists. Very fresh and delicious sea food. Hudge plates in a very reasonable prices. Although the service is not the best one I would still highly recommend this place.

“Merida's Gem”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

When planning my 3 week stay in Merida I was delighted to see that my favorite seafood place was still highly recommended. Sure enough, lunch on my second day was outstanding; fresh fish, nicely grilled with sides of avocado, rice, beans, freshly made salsa and chips and, of course, a very cold Dos Equis Lager! Tab with gratuity was less than $11 US! Service is rapid and professional. Kitchen is consistently excellent. Marlin Azul is a favorite with the adult shopping ladies and young professionals working near the Plaza Grande and is usually crowded. However, it is the kind of place where people share tables and use whatever English they have to talk to an American with rusty college Spanish.
Of course I returned some 6-8 times and found other excellent menu choices but it is hard to beat the freshly caught Mero (Grouper), prepared many ways. My favorite place since I first visited 2001.

“Local and authentic”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

On our first full day in Merida we headed down the street to Marlin Azul for some cold cervezas, ceviche mixto, shrimp in mojo de ajo for my wife and “drunken shrimp” covered with a cilantro sauce for me. We had heard they had a small air conditioned dining room next door, but failed to notice the separate entrance to the left and ended up in the main room. The place was patronized by locals and we felt that it was an authentic Meridian experience. The ceviche was OK, the two shrimp dishes each a bit better. Service was slow but it was a little busy. Our bill was 308 pesos ($24.64) plus tip.

“Surprise Pescado Comida”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

First trip to Merida about ten years ago we knew nothing of the potential for fine dining in Merida, just saw "eating" places in relatively small "step-up" places around the center of town. Saw what looked like a "fish place" so we stopped for late lunch. Wow! It was absolutely great food with very nice service people who worked hard to understand our needs that we could only present in English and by pointing at the menu. Now that we live here we stop in Marlin Azul from time to time to relive that memory and every time, it proves we were right the first time we visited and we were right to retire to a city with good food on almost every street somewhere in almost every neighborhood. Marlin Azul keeps our faith.

“Ceviche to die for”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Have visited this lunch spot several times now for huge plates of mixto ceviche and cervesas. Cant beat the price and always super fresh, large plates with plenty of seafood. Not open for dinner, only mid day meal. A little hard to find if you don't yet know your way around the centro historico. But worth the effort to walk the blocks around till you find it.It was on my way home so midday before siesta is the super place to have luch.
