I can't understand the great reviews. The food was average and the service was the same. Even at 9:00 to 9:30 we were the only customers. A table of locals came in then, but there was no one else. I had the chicken parm and it was fine, but not memorable. Prices were a bit high for what you got. The owner was nice and he did speak English, but he spent most of his time staring out the front door.

This restaurant has an unassuming entrance and can be easlily overlooked among the more prominent places near the Zocalo. That would be a mistake. Once tried, this place has quickly become our favorite for delicious Yucatecan food done with style. It also has excellent thin and crispy pizza, fine deserts, and excellent service. Both the owner and head waiter will make sure that your dining experience is an extremely satisfying one. Combine this with two-for-one Happy Hours from noon to 2:00 and 4:00 to 7:00 PM with the coldest premium beers in town, and it's a diner's dream come true. The guacamole and habanero tostada dip alone is worth a visit (or the roasted tomato dip when available, and the deserts are excellent as well.

Believe it or not, it´s really hard to find a good Yucatecan food restaurant anywhere in Merida City. This is a real pleasant exception. My wife and I are natives from this city and have tried a lot of Yucatecan food restaurants. This is the best of the best. We had little faith in it. It´s small, kind of dark and unattractive. However, their typical dishes are outstanding. Don´t miss it, it´s well worth.

We don't plan our dining very well -- we like to see a place crowded with locals, avoid places wtih plastic photos of food on stands, and especially avoid restaurants with people handing out coupons for discounts. Well, El Chile fit all those that we tend to avoid. We walked past this place just steps from our hotel at least 3 times a day. We couldn't see people inside, so we took a pass. What ended up happening, was that our trip out of town was delayed by a rental car glitch -- we needed to find a place to wait, and Easy Way rental said they would treat us to coffee across the street. We looked at each other, and almost said "no" , but were curious about what was inside this restaurant. Inside it was pleasant. The coffee was great and we were given a basket of breads that were delicious. The service was outstanding.

I'm not sure what advice to give the owner -- he's trying too hard to get tourist attention which in turn turns off some tourists? He doesn't try to attract locals? I really don't know, but he's doing something wrong to get people like me to even not want to walk in the door. Maybe he doesn't have the best location -- it's narrow and hard to see anyone inside, most people who don't know a place (like me) assume if no one is there, there is a problem. In my opinion, it's not the service or the food-- because they were very very good.
