“Business Class”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

A good hotel in the smarter "hotel zone" end of town, near the Hyatt, Holiday Inn and Fiesta Americana. It's a short walk to the classy Paseo de Montejo and about 20 minute walk into the old historic centre of Merida.
The is valet parking so arrival is easy and the staff at check in were efficient and friendly. The room we had overlooked the main street but there is double glazing and little noise. It was spacious and well equipped in a standard business hotel kind of way. The aircon was a bit noisy but fortunately we did not need it at night and for some reason the hot water in the shower disappeared for one evening of our stay. Otherwise it was comfortable enough.
There is a small bar in the lobby but it's not very atmospheric although one evening there was a guitarist there playing live music to an audience of one, which went up to three when we arrived.
Like many hotels in Mexico the restaurant really serves a brunch rather than just breakfast but there is a wide range of food available on the buffet from breakfast cereals right up to full Mexican monty. Eggs can be cooked freshly to order and there is plenty of fresh fruit. The coffee is of the rather insipid variety so often found in the US, but there is plenty of it.
The restaurant is open in the evenings but it is very brightly lit and lacks atmosphere so it's fine if you want a quick bite but it's not really a dinner place. However Merida has plenty of good restaurants that are just a short cab ride away.
Overall we were pleased with our choice for the few days we spent in Merida.

Merida is a town of contrasts and I'm glad we picked this hotel in a nicer area of town. Check in was smooth and our room was really nice with a great bathroom, airco and nice balcony. We also had access to the club lounge which had a nice happy hour with snacks and a nice breakfast. We took the Turibus city tour which we picked up at the Holiday Inn close by which was worthwhile. The only negatives were the cost of phone calls and that a second coffee pod or water cost extra. I think this was excessive for the club level. Overall really enjoyed this hote.

We had a standard room here for two nights over new year. The room was ok but had an awful view over an adjacent buildings roof and car park. The room was a little tired, however the beds were clean and comfortable. A very odd coffee pod machine was provided in the room which leaked quite badly when used. Two coffee pods were provided but with no milk, creamer or sugar. Any subsequent coffee pods required were not free and incurred a charge. Wifi was not available anywhere In the hotel unless you paid a daily charge of 150 Mexican pesos. Unbelievable that wifi is charged for in a large international chain of hotels when the tiniest B and Bs in Mexico can provide wifi free of charge. Breakfast was average with a strange selection of foods on offer, especially for the international traveller. Not sure a whole roast turkey ready to carve is a breakfast item! The selection also included a variety of hot meat dishes and some kind of trifle concoction by the fruit selection. Poor bread choice too. Only sweet sliced processed bread on offer. The hotel is a long walk from the main square, at least 20 mins walk. Not the nicest of roads to walk along at night, although we did not feel unsafe. Would stay much nearer the main square if I was to go to Merida again.

Room was delightful, and the staff spoke very good English. Restaurant was excellent too. Bell-men very helpful, free WiFi. Watch the mini -bar. If you move anything to put something in, they charge. Better not using it.

It is a fair walk from the centre square. But not that far! You are on holiday and around every corner there is something new to find. The locals are so very friendly. On Sundays there are little social gatherings and music, people meet and greet. We danced and chatted too... Felt like a time gone by.

Enjoy Merida. Wish we had stayed longer there and less at the ruins heading back to Tulum.

I cannot fathom some of the comments saying this hotel has a great location.

It is quite a walk - about 30 mins to the centre of town.

The hotel itself is good, the room very large and well appointed.

The staff are friendly and helpful - make sure you ask to join the rewards club then you can get free Wi-Fi.

The restaurant has good food and wine - although it is very pricey for this region.

There seemed to be some confusion with the staff over what to charge for breakfast - one saying that the is only one price and another only charging me for the continental which is what I had.

Pros:
- Rooms are big enough.
- Nice towels and linens.
- Clean.
- Nice staff.
- Wi-fi that works.
- Nice shower.
- Free parking.

Cons:
- The bed could be softer.
- A restaurant waiter commented that 'it was ok if we didn't want to give tips' ironically. We didn't tip since it was a buffet Breakfast. We filled a positive satisfaction form and he took it and read in front of us worried that we would complain about something.

We had a perfect experience at this hotel-all of the staff were great as was the food and room. The front desk folks were very helpful and the bell men were always there for us. The food in the restaurant was good too

Room Tip: Walking to the downtown is easy and convenient but the taxi fare is inexpensive too
