We were looking for a small, quiet, quaint hotel close to the historic center of town. Mision de Fray Diego was the perfect place recommended by a local Meridian. We arrived after 10 pm and were greeted by friendly bilingual staff one of which promptly took our bags and escorted us to our room. The hotel is just two blocks from the Zocalo, very convenient location. We learned that the hotel served as a convent in the past. The restaurant serves delicious breakfast and dinner and Jose, our waiter, took very good care of us. We will certainly return.More

Nice hotel with an interior patio/pool.
A former monastery, named after Friar Diego, charming, moderately priced, spacious rooms, helpful staff and if you arrive by car, valet parking! Nice cosy swimming pool, breakfast OK, try the spanish ommelet!

Good, that's it
It's a little nice hotel with an interior patio. The room was not very clean, had a lot of dust on the floor. the beds and pillows are awful, it's like you are sleeping in a rock. The food at the restaurant is good.

Most of the staff is helpful and can help you to make your day trip reservations.

Birds are where they should be
Excellent moderately priced hotel. We loved all the decor. The staff were all very helpful, can´t comment on the restaurant as we only had breakfast.
we stayed in room 204, opposite the reception desk. Very spacious, good beds. Wifi reception not very good because of the thick walls.
The only problem we found was that the air conditioner is directed directly at the bed closest to it and we were unable to change the direction of the air. So during the night it was so cold that we had to turn it off. And then it was too hot in the 40 Merida weather. perhaps they could do something to re-direct the air1

The thing that really delighted us was that in the swimming pool courtyard there is a huge empty birdcage and inside there is a notice saying "The birds are where they are supposed to be" loved it, I´d go back just for that.

Charming facility; couretous staff
The most interesting aspect about this place is that it is a former Franciscan monastery named after Friar Diego. The second most interesting fact is that in the agreement that you sign to stay here, the hotel can kick you out for participating in "immoral activity." I supposed that this involves either drugs or prostitution. So you know you are in a safe place. The restaurant isn't that good, but the rooms are clean, cool (air-conditioned), and comfortable. Very reasonably priced for a beautiful place to stay in Merida. Only about 2 blocks from the central square and many restaurants.

Nice little place.
Nice hotel with a lovely courtyard. The restaurant was good but opened late and closed early. Staff were helpful and pleasant. I forgot to tip on checkout and still feel bad. Good location right near Centro. The walls are very thick so there is no phone signal or wifi once inside. The mission theme was a bit overdone and the 3ft tall back lighted cross in our room was a bit confronting. The bed was a little firm. If I was ever in Merida again I guess I would stay somewhere else.
