I just stayed at MedioMundo for two nights and two nights the Luz. There's nothing wrong with the Luz. It's just that the aesthetics of MedioMundo are exquisite. Central garden with natural light. Special paint they developed themselves - yellow, blue, orange. The walls are beautifully done. High ceilings. Awake to the morning doves. Special stenciling. Great gift shop. Attentive staff. Wonderful fresh fruit for breakfast. All I would ask are wash clothes (like Europe, bring your own) and eggs (again very European - fresh fruit, strong coffee, cold cuts, bread and jam.) This is the place to be. Lovely!

This fine establishment has only improved with time. Our first visit in 2008 was similar to this one. Staff could not have been more helpful; directions, recommendations or solving little problems. Rooms were comfy Spanish colonial.

I wholeheartedly agree with the other travelers on this site. MedioMundo is the perfect place for a relaxed, comfortable stay in Merida. A very private place in a fun city. Nicole and Nelson and their family are the perfect hosts. They are congenial, knowedgeable and so helpful. Their recommendations for sights, restaurants and directions were great and really made a difference in our vacation. The hotel is beautifully designed and decorated in a simple, tasteful manner. The rooms are quite and spotless (my two obsessions) as well as comfortable and the breakfast delicious! A real gem.

We stayed for 5 nights with Nelson and Nicole as our hosts and were made to feel pampered and well taken care of. From the delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt and pastries and fresh ground coffee to the wonderfully comfortable beds in the rooms, we found it hard to leave the hotel to go exploring.
Don't miss Uxmal and it was easy to take a bus for the day.

Without the kindness and pizzazz of Nicole and Nelson, and without the easygoing attentiveness of their staff, Merida would have been just another beautiful colonial city. Hotel Mediomundo is a happy surprise to the senses. There's a colonnaded courtyard, an exotic garden and fountain, plus another courtyard in the back with a pool and more lovely garden. The rooms, painted brilliantly, offer welcome peace and coolness. But the real treat of staying here is the way Nelson and Nicole take care of their guests, whether to recommend a fabulous restaurant, a concert in the plaza, or a funky hole-in-the-wall cafe and shop that we would never have found on our own.

We stayed at Medio Mundo in December 2010 and loved it. Nicole and Nelson are hospitality industry professionals and the hotel shows the years of experience and expertise. Medio Mundo is a calm oasis is a hectic and sometimes noisy city. When you step inside, everything is calm and quiet. The first courtyard has lush plants and a wonderful fountain. The sound of water is soothing and you cannot hear any more city noises. The second courtyard has a pool and breakfast area... also very calm and tranquil. the blue and green painted walls are beautiful. The staff is VERY helpful and greets you as if you are a house guest. They are very knowledgable about the entire area and will offer lots of specific advice about outings and visiting the sites. Breakfast is a special treat, sitting by the pool and having locally made mango yogurt, fresh fruits and wonderful breads. The rooms are spacious... even too large... with fans and AC and large showers. the colors are wonderful. There is plenty of outside space to sit and enjoy the courtyards. It's really a wonderful place and the owners are terrific.

A beautiful courtyard in the middle and one at the back with a little pool to enjoy a peaceful and delicious breakfast. The room was great - king size SOFT bed, QUIET air conditioning and a huge bathroom. The hosts were very accommodating when we had to take breakfast a little earlier than normal and they also had some beautiful crafts in the office area.
