“Wonderful visit despite the rain...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2011

We visited Rancho Tierra Bonito on June 27, 2011 as part of an excursion on a Carnival Ecstasy cruise to Progreso and Cozumel from Galveston, TX. We arrived after a 2 1/2 hour tour of the nearby Dzibilchaltun Ruins so we had worked up quite an appetite. We were seated for a Mexican buffet with chicken, beef, beans, rice, tortillas, etc. They had a mild habanero sauce on the table and the best pico de gallo I've ever tasted.

After lunch we made out way to the small arena for the horse show. It had been cloudy and raining off and on the entire day. The announcer said they were in the middle of the worst drought in 70 years so they were thankful but it was unfortunate it came on our day in port. As we sat for the show the rain slowly became heavier until it was a complete downpour. The staff were the ultimate professionals and continued with the show as much as they could. The charros performed some tricks with the horses and a roping demonstration. They had dancers perform and a singer who was in the middle of her song when the rains really started coming down. Despite our cheers and pleads for her to stop, she continued through the rain to finish her number. They eventually decided it was not safe and cut the show short.

I would highly recommend this excursion especially to families. We were traveling with our boys ages 8 & 3 and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Many thanks and apprecation to the staff at Rancho Tierra Bonito.

“The place is nice, the food great but the show.....hmm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2011

First off, they only do this show on Mondays, for the cruise ships. but I found out about it and sent an email and they said, sure, come on when you are here and allowed me to book a reservation tierrabonita@prodigy.net.mx

Well, it wasn’t what I thought it would be, being originally from Texas, I have been to “Charro” shows and was expecting something much more.

We got there and were seated in the restaurant, the buffet was sparse but the food was really good and the drinks were well made, you are allowed to order all the drinks you want and they are included with your meal, unless it comes in a bottle, then you are charged for the drink. When you leave the restaurant and head over to the arena, no more free drinks, but they do have a waiter wandering around with a tray of drinks for sale. They do have these Pina Coladas that they sell in a commemorative little clay jug like glass that you can take home with you that have the name of the ranch on them, I think they were $5.00 USD, they only take USD so no pesos here. The show is not that impressive, the horses run around, the cowboys do rope tricks but not that many and not that impressive....and that’s about it, the dancing is very nice, very pretty and “Paloma” the singer is very good, we did enjoy her. There is so much they could add to the show that it was kind of boring. If it hadn’t been so close to where we were staying and relatively easy to find (take the Dzitya exit coming from Progresso) I would have been upset, however, the food was really, really good and the staff was very nice and accommodating. There are some vendors there, but they are very few, maybe 6 or 7? But the cost was reasonable, $20.00 USD per person, so the food, drink dancing and singing were adequate for the cost of admission but it’s not really a rodeo or charro show, so if you have been to one before, you will be disappointed. Loved the food, loved the place, the people were very nice but a bit of a let down on the show, just thought it would be more.
