Description: This is named in a number of guide books, such as Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide, tacos and beer, but SUPERB. It is said that the President of Mexico used to send a plane to collect food from here in the 60s. May not be true, but SHOULD BE!

“The most unique and tasty seafood tacos in town.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2012

This little dive looking hole in the wall serves the most unique seafood tacos in town. This ain't your regular fried fish tacos with pickled onion. They have a rotating variety of fish, shrimp, octopus, cod and some others I don't even know their names. You can trust the kitchen and the food. My advice is to just try them all, they are all so tasty. My favorite is the octopus, I have never had such tender octopus (in fact, most the pulpo in Merida is extremely tender), not chewy and so tasty. Look for that faded red Coke awning and enjoy the old photos on the wall.

“NO WONDER THE PRESIDENT SENT A PLANE FOR THE FOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2011

The story goes that many years ago the Mexican President used to send out for Cangrejito tacos from Mexico City by fighter plane, and I would not doubt it! OK, if you want linen tablecloths and international food, go to the Hyatt or somewhere, this isn`t for you! If, on the other hand, you want to eat some of the best Yucatecan tacos ever, be bravfe, enter and enjoy! The decor is eclectic, to say the least: a huge chandelier hangs from the bare concrete ceikling in the back room and photos of Pope John Paul II and picture of the virgin vie for space with photos of bull fighters and the owner with celebrities. A modest place, but CLEAN. As in most places in Merida, the cook never handles money, only the food. They offerings are chicharron (roast pork), bacalao, lobster, prawns, fish, bredded pork andn sometimes brain tacos, and that is all they serve: tacos, beer and fizzy drinks. No starters, no deserts, no salads. Tacos. But the best tacos I have ever had, and I`ve spent a while in Merida and tried everything. Well worth the visit. And bring a fan - no aircon.

“Absolutely Fantastic.”

I had three tacos: Lobster, Shrimp & Squid. Also had a beer & one was thrown in on the house. Everything was superb including the service. Everything was about 6-8 bucks.

“The beach in Merida's Historic Centro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2011

This tiny restaurant was recommended by a local. But even it it wasn't, you'd know it is exceptional by the fact that the tables are always full. Be prepared to use your limited Spanish or use lots of gestures. A delightful array of regional specialities and fresh seafood are offered on fresh tortillas or Mexican rolls as a sandwich or "torta". Crab, lobster, bacalao, fried fish, or even venison and pork. Tables are close together, and it is loud and wonderful and very authentic. I ate there several times during our stay and can't wait to return.
