“It was ok”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Stopped in for breakfast and was a little disappointed. Huevos rancheros were cold, cappucino was also lacking. The juice was good and the free wifi was a benefit but we won't be back.

“Friendly Cafe good for breakfast”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

Good place for breakfast, good range of breakfast options though I tended to choose the American breakfast option which I felt was good value for money. The service was friendly and the coffee good.

“Good breakfast and lunch here”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

Go -- you'll like it. It's a diner. In Merida. Mexican style.

Don't expect the waiters to explain everything to you -- most of them look like they've been with the place since it opened -- they are businesslike -- and wonderful. It's nothing fancy, but we were really happy to have a solid, consistent spot in Merida.

“Great solution for a quick bite!”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Loved this small cafeteria/restaurante next to its more genteer Portico del Peregrino, which I will review later, same ownership.

I loved going there for breakfast and lunch and ventured a couple of times for dinner. It was close to my B and B and up the street from the Teatro Peon Contreras. The service is excellent and their food for its kind is excellent.

Their breakfasts and lunches are winners. They have "paquetes" for breakfast that offer fresh juice or fruit, coffee, toast, butter, marmalade and eggs done in various ways: a la mexicana, motulenos, divorciados, etc. My favorite was the motulenos, which was a black bean base, topped with tortillas and eggs on top, covered with a sauce and ham, flanked by plantains. I yearned for the divorced eggs, which consists of a plate with one egg sauced in one manner (red) and the other on the other side sauced in a different manner (green). I never go to taste it, but they looked divine. This is the only place in Merida where I got a Cuban Sandwich made correctly except for the diagonal cut at a wrong angle. Mexicans don't seem to be able to get that angle right.
The price is very easy on the pocket book, and the service is excellent. I recommend this throwback to the 70's very highly!

“Merida's Favorite Diner”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

If one were to construct the perfect diner for Merida, it would have to look something like Cafeteria Pop. 30+ year old interior design (aka swoopy Latin American Modernism with orange formica-topped tables) still intact? Check. Good, reliable, Mexican and Yucatecan dishes for both breakfast and lunch? Check. Good, efficient, quick, unflowery service? Check.

We went there for both breakfast and lunch on the same day. Breakfast we had pancakes and huevas motulenos. Lunch chicken taquitos, sopa de lima, and chicken fajitas. All were perfect.
