We celebrated our 20th anniversary at this restaurant. Everything was perfect; food, ambience, service. Our table was decorated with roses and there was a live band performing. We will stay at this hotel next time.

Very pretty and romantic, very accommodating wait staff. We had delicious food that was not mexican, and it was a welcome change. Both of us remarked on the high quality of our meals. The ambience is romantic and special. The bathroom was really neat. I liked the sink. There are pools of water that you have to avoid stepping in, right there in the dining room. Don't drink too much, or you could end up in one! If you don't pay attention, and if you look UP instead of down at your feet, you could step in one. We didn't, but it was funny to think about. We had a very nice meal here.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented in a romantic and lovely setting. I loved the arugula salad with strawberries, the chicken and the gorgeous chocolate dessert. The chaya/cucumber/lime juice was also wonderful.
My only complaint is the coffee. With the excellent coffee that is now being produced in Mexico, it's a shame that they serve Nespresso.

Rosas y Xocolate is a boutique hotel and restaurant right at the corner of Paseo de Montejo and Calle 41 (41st Street). The building itself is painted a deep rose and the theme is resumed in the courtyard with its outdoor seating. The cuisine is referred to by management as a fusion of Mayan, Yucatecan, and modern flavors. Neither of us knows nearly enough about the ancient cuisines to judge the nuances of the fusion, but can certainly appreciate the results. In a word, delicious.

Ben had a stew-like bowl of shrimp boiled in a complex and tasty broth. Mrs. Too ordered a sandwich made with Serrano ham, fresh figs, and arugula. Both were marvelous, especially Mrs Too’s weird sounding sandwich. Our server was very proud, and quite rightly so, of the house-baked bread on the sandwich as well as the superb crusty rolls, also baked in-house and served on the side.

We were welcomed at the door and shown to a table, where we were told that the restaurant did not open for lunch until one o’clock, but were served cappuccino. Perhaps fifteen minutes passed until the server returned to the table, told us we need wait no longer, and took our order. After our entrees were disposed of, we were presented with dessert menus listing at least half a dozen great sounding chocolate choices. Regrettably, we simply couldn’t tackle any and declined. On the other hand, one of the joys of venturing off to faraway places with strange sounding names is to leave with reasons to return. That is certainly the case with Rosas y Xocolate. You will not be disappointed here.

We came here with high expectations, as a family member with great taste recommended it and was spot-on with other suggestions like La Pigua and La Chaya Maya. However, my fiancé and I were very disappointed with our dinner here.

The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was lovely, but the meal was just blah and very overpriced. We were both in agreement that it was our least favorite meal in Merida. We didn't even stay for dessert.

Maybe it was an off night for them, or maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but simply put, our meal was a big disappointment.
