“Good mid priced hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

Stayed for a night in this pretty colonial family run town house hotel. The staff were friendly & helpful.

Our room was clean but in the older part of the complex so rather dark but had air conditioning which was much more important & meant we had a comfortable night.

Breakfast was included & was fine though nothing exceptional but at this price range that is fine.

Close to the central square too and not too far from the main or secondary ADO bus stations. The map provided at the reception desk was extremely useful in getting our bearings quickly though.

During our trip through Mexico we stayed in Merida for two nights. We chose this place because of good feedbacks and its location.

Just about 10min by taxi from the ADO Bus-Station we arrived at the Hotel. The welcome was warm and friendly, great front desk and staff!
The Hotel has a nice courtyard with pool and a big breakfast/dining area (with roof - in case of rain). The Hotel is kept in a nice old colonial-style and is very well kept and maintained. It feels very safe and relaxed here. There's also lots of seats and tables close to the rooms where you can hang around before going to sleep (it's nice and warm throughout the night too) and there's a drink-vending machine with beer too, in case you feel like it (we did - try the Modelo).

The rooms are clean and bright. We had some courtyard view which was nice. Beds are comfy and we really had a good sleep. Breakfast was included - but wasn't really exciting I have to say. There's free WiFi in the whole Hotel too.

About 10min by foot you'll reach the Zocalo or the great Mercado. There's lots of good food and shopping options in this very nice town. If you walk home late at night, the road to the Hotel might look a bit dark and deserted, but it's just fine...it's a friendly and safe town.

We ended up very happy with our choice and sure would (and will) stay here again next time. Wanna know more about my trips? Check my profile (where you'll also find my website about more of my travels).

The good:
* Clean, spacious room.
* Reasonably sized pool.
* Working WiFi.
* Reasonably nice staff.
* Nice open public spaces.

The bad:
* Hot room with noisy air conditiong and no bug screen, making opening a window risky and the outside lights are very bright in any case.
* No drinking water available. You have to buy 1 liter bottles from reception.
* No shampoo.
* Breakfast was a pretty basic buffet, which would be fine but
- the only cold drinks were sickly sweet "mixes" (no water!)
- the eggs were mixed with sausage, so no options for non-meat options.

Bad breakfast and noisy rooms! But it was clean and the lady at de frontdesk is very nice. Not quite IN the center. You have to walk (5min) but it is not a nice walk. Dirty street. But what to expact for this price?

At first I did not like a "dank" smell in the room that I think is due to turning off the a/c, but then I began to see the positives. Location is great and they have free protected parking. The rooms are nice (ok), but the public areas are really very attractive and relaxing. Once you have taken in the crowded hot city, you can relax by the pool or rock next to a fan and Frida Kahlo reproductions. It was kind of an escape from the heat and traffic outside. We found the staff pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was good with lots of choices. A few little tweaks would make the experience a 5 such as cleaning up the doors and offering shampoo. However, as others have pointed out a very good experience for the price.

I really liked this hotel. No, its not 5 star, but neither is the price. Firstly its a bit hard to find, however, with a bit of perseverance you will look down the street and there is the black and white sign. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. Our air con was also quite noisy, but it worked and we needed it in the middle of June. We in Australia take a bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities for granted, they are missing in most Mexican hotels, ditto this one, however, there are vending machines near reception and one of them has coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc. 24/7. There is a lovely patio area in the front of the hotel where they serve meals, we only had breakfast here each day and it was adequate. I love the Frida Khalo prints all around this area, the lady at reception said that the original building is over 400 years old, it's quite charming. The back area is newer and has a lovely pool with plenty of lounge chairs and plants. Our room was in this building on the ground floor, there is also a parking area out the back and a laundry, which was self serve and cheap, 7pesos for a huge load. I noticed that someone mentioned a lack of towels, staff are happy to give you extra towels if you ask. There are two computers near reception for guest use, however, they have no printing facility, there is also wifi in all the common areas, but not the rooms. The hotel is within walking distance to everything you will need in Merida, the zocalo, restaurants, shops and taxis are cheap and plentiful. Really this is a good value hotel without the frills but everything you will need.

Stayed here for 2 nights, booked in advance! I did see that there are 2 price lists on the counter as mentioned in other reviews.

The rooms are ok, not more than that. Aircon is really old and noisy, but it works. Not much towels available and if you would want to use the pool you'll need to use your shower towels and change them at the reception. The pool itself is not a recommendation, its 150cm deep and yet you cannot see the bottom, also its littered with dead insects!

Location is somewhat out of the center, but with the price of a taxi not really an issue!
