The hotel is 5 minutes walking from Merida's Main Square, where you can find lots of restaurants and bars. If you are in Merida on Saturday or Sunday don't miss the various activities the city makes during the afternoon and evenings.

Back to the hotel, rooms are very clean, beds, pillows and sheets are very comfortable! You also get very neat bathroom amenities: honey and oatmeal handsoap, shampoo and body lotion. They smell so good you want to eat them!

Just make sure you get a room away from the olde elevator, it's a bit noisy, but not a problem since noise practically disappears after 11:00pm, when most of the guests are sleeping. It did not disturb our sleep :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevator, its quieter

This was my second stay at the Maria del Carmen. My favorite thing about this hotel has to be the staff. They are more than nice and helpful. They really look out for their guests. The rooms are very clean. The restaurant is good. The pool and the lobby are also very clean. The decoration is plain and minimal, but it gives a fresh and mainstream look to the rooms which I have come to appreciate. It is one of the best value for your money in town. Well located, close but not too close from the noise of the Plaza Grande. And I have to mentioned that the AC is central and not window unit, so it is relatively quiet when running.

Room Tip: Booking on line does offer some discounts.

I was able to stay here for about 560 pesos a night; 520 was the internet reservation special.

Everything was fine, except the cable TV, which was loose. Thankfully, I was able to disconnect the splitter and directly wire the coax to the jack (which was missing its cover). Also, the channel up button on the remote was not working. I thought about telling the front desk about this, but I didn't want to sound like a whiner so I took matters into my own hands.

However, other than the TV, my stay was excellent - the air conditioning actually worked, there was a computer in the lobby, the staff was really nice, the pool had a real deep end, etc., etc. The grounds were nice. The last day I was there I ordered hot cakes (pancakes for us Minnesotans) and papadzules (eggs covered in tortillas and tomato sauce), as well as a lemonade, for 100 pesos (about $8 - $9), including room service (delivery directly to my room) and a tip. An excellent value!

The price was so low that we were imagining bedbugs etc, but we booked it anyways because it was the long weekend and other places we had tried to book into were full. From the moment we arrived we were very impressed. It was easy to get to even though it is right downtown, and only three blocks from the Main Plaza. Check in and out was simple. You didn't feel like you were signing your life away. Free secure parking. The room was great. It was clean, good bed, nice linens and it had all the extras they put in rooms even all the stuff needed for coffee in the morning. Internet in the room was fast and free. The pool was warm compared to most in Mexico that are chilly. They also have pool towels that are large and you can keep your room towels dry for after your endless hotwater shower. The food was great for the price except for the soggy frozen vegtables. And the staff was friendly, helpful and supplied excellent service. After walking to the Main Plaza in the morning to experience the Sunday Market, which has lots of everything, we seriously considered staying longer to enjoy the hotel. I reccomend this hotel to everyone.

We were interested in the Maria del Carmen Hotel because of the good reviews we found on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed as the hotel was great. The rooms were very spacious, clean, and quiet. We requested a king size bed that was very comfortable and nice linens. The restaurant offered many choices and the prices were lower than most restaurants around. It was easy to walk to the city central to enjoy all the happenings going on there. The hotel staff was very friendly and eager to service all our needs.
