The Paseo de Montejo with its magnificent mansions shows how some became wealthy during the height of the henequen industry.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

Just stroll down the Paseo and enjoy the beautiful colonial homes and buildings. Stop at an outside cafe and have dinner, gelato or a glass of wine. Take a horse and carriage ride at night when it is cool.

I cannot describe this wonderful tiny Avenue that is El Paseo de Montejo.
You need to visit it to understand what History can bring to a Culture.

“Great houses”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

This was THE street when Merida was one of the richest cities in the world. Most of the homes of the wealthy still exist. it makes for a pleasant stroll in the morning or evening...midday is extremely hot.

“Lovely for strolling.........”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

We found the wide street and spacious mansions lovely to see and a real contrast to the other Spanish COlonial styles. My husband and I walked from Centro and thought it was an easy walk to do - not a problem at all, and the sidewalks are in much better condition so walking is easy. There are numerous cafe's and a few shops, and the gorgeous mansions are worth having a look at. You get an old European feeling walking down Paseo de Montejo. THis is the beauty of Merida - contrasts, old world charm, .....and Paseo de Montejo is one more aspect of that beauty worth seeing and walking around.
