It is amazing what they've done with this smallish space! There is always something happening - artisan stalls, really good local cuisine served from a type of hot-dog cart, traditional musicians and street dances on Saturday nights. Well worth the visit if you want to take part in Yucatecan life.

Plaza Grande is the gathering spot for Merida families, romantic couples and tourists alike. Something happens each evening. On friday nights there is free live music and entertainment Everyone comes out to be entertained under the trees. Beautiful gracious small park with plenty of seating. During the day people relax or eat their lunch before returning to work. Plenty of choices nearby for drinks, snacks or sorbet

one whole block square zocolo is a great spot to people watch and enjoy and take in Merida...right across from the incredible cathedral worth the trip all by itself

You'll have to visit this spot at some point if you're in Merida -- unless you completely avoid the center of town. It's huge, it's a prime meeting place, and several important/interesting buildings surround the square. You'll find a scene every night of the week. Watch as the trovatore trios array themselves for hire around the square -- you might even see them getting hired as they pile into a car and head off to someone's important occasion. They'll play for you right on the street if you like -- ask them how much for one song?

Walked to and around the Plaza on several occasions. Many cultural activities observed. Met friendly, English fluent citizens.
