Hafing been to Chaya Maya the night before we were looking for some good Mexican food. We found La Casa de Frida, and although we were the only customers at the time( it was fairly early evening) we had a great meal. We had the “Chiles en nogades!”, a poblano chili stuffed with minced pork! Nuts , plantain, apples and pears, covered with a cream sauce doppled with red pomegranate seeds( it represents the Mexican flag) and we also had the duck in Mole. The Mole was superb.
The Margharitas were excellent with a good helping of tequila.

The restaurant is very quirky, painted in bright course a la Frida Kahlo. With many images of her and copies of her works of art. No sign of a bunny for us( would not have appreciated it anyway)

This used to be my favorite restaurant so I was extremely disappointed this year when I ordered my favorite meal, chilis en nogada. This dish is supposed to have pomegranate seeds sprinkled atop the white sauce covering the stuffed poblano peppers. Instead of pomegranates, there were diced maraschino cherries! The cloying taste of the cherries are nothing like pomegranate seeds. It spoiled the entire meal. Also, the margaritas were too sweet.
There were four people in our group and we will never go back. This restaurant has been going downhill for four years now and is not the same place we knew years ago.

This was maybe my second favorite meal in one week of dining in northern Yucatan. Small, with only about 10 tables. And the little rabbit hopping around at the end of our dinner, just made my family so happy.

The bright and cheery decor welcomes you in and is a homage to Frida Kahlo. There is a cosy courtyard and fabulous food, possibly our best meal yet ... and also the antics of Coco the bunny to watch. I had a poblano chile stuffed with ground beef, apple, pear and plantain covered with a cream and walnut sauce, and Chris had tortillas stuffed with cheese and covered with delicious mole - the best we'd tasted.

Full of great artprints this simple restaurant serves homely and tasty food and has an impromptu cabaret: Coco, the chef's big white rabbit shows some cool moves as he greets all the diners.
Go before he's on the menu!
