This hotel restaurant is right in Merida Centro. Very convenient, service is fast and efficient, the breakfast buffet has a large selection of regional foods, and an omelet bar, fresh fruits, etc. very good value.

“Good food, good price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2009

I read with interest the other comments on the buffet at the Colonial. I've eaten there several times and here are my thoughts. The Cafe La Habana has great coffee. They roast the beans on the premises. If you want a good cup of coffee, and maybe a sweet roll, it's a good place to go, though you do have to pay for a warm-up of your coffee. The buffet at the Colonial, recommended to me by a friend, really is very good and worth more than the modest price. It is one of my favorites. I've never had a problem or dissapointment there of any sort. The very best breakfast buffet, though, is on weekends at the Hotel Castellanos. It cost more than twice the Colonial's, but it is spectacular!

“less than mediocre”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2009

I really can't believe the glowing review of the restaurant of the Hotel Colonial. On the first morning of our first trip to Merida, we were looking for a place for breakfast, and ended up at the Hotel Colonial. It was a very poor breakfast buffet... and probably one of the very few poor meals we have had in a city filled with wonderful restaurants. We never ate there again. And just down the street is what was to become our favorite breakfast stop, Cafe La Habana.

“Best place for breakfast in Merida!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2009

Last winter my wife and I probably ate forty breakfasts at the Hotel Colonial's restaurant and were never disappointed. Great food, reasonable price. The buffet, which most people have, is really excellent. Eggs cooked to order (Pedro's omelets are great ), a wide selection of hot entrees (love Francisco's cochinta pebil and his chicken stewed in Mayan herbs), fresh fruits, yogurts, sweets, cereals, etc. and delicious fresh squeezed OJ. The friendly waiters keep the coffee cups filled and the plates removed. Many have a bit of English and Miguel, the head waiter, is fluent. We only had two problem there. One was finding a table. The restaurant is often full of guests and locals (the Bishop eats here) enjoying a tasty meal at a reasonable price. The other was gaining weight from eating too much good food. We can't really comment on lunch (after a big breakfast, who needs it?) or dinner (we and our friends usually dined somewhere different every night), but the few times we ate there it was quite good.

“Never eat here”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2009

The meal was OK, there is much better food in the same area of town. The service was indifferent which is annoying since we are spending the winter in Merida and not tourists. The reason to never eat there is the crooked bill. When the bill came there was 25% tax added to the bill. The tax is already included in the price of the bill and if it wasn’t it would be 15%. When I kept asking the waiter what the charge was for he kept saying it is nothing, it’s nothing. Right in the same area are very good restaurants that the locals eat at and the prices are very reasonable. Also the signs on the front do not reflect what is made available when seated.
