I visited the cathedral on a Saturday evening. At that time they were having a light show on the actual Cathedral. The location was very festive with lots of people both tourists and locals. The Cathedral itself is very much worth visiting as it is a center point of the community and a spectacular building in and of itself from an architectural standpoint as well as from a religious perspective. While at the Cathedral you can visit a number of museauns within walking distance as well as restaurants and bars or just hang out and enjoy the crowd.

Beautiful church. Light show every Friday around 8:30/9 and lasts 20-30min was at first sceptical as have been to light shows abroad which have been terrible but was pleasantly surprised. Amazing show, free of charge.

A very large quite plain nice place to worship. The people are very pleasant warm and inviting. The building was nice and cool on a hot, humid day.

A awesome large church full of color and old church style. We sat in on a mass and the acoustics were outstanding. The sounds of the church organ pipes were just amazing. Inside the church was large and when I walked in I felt a sense of peace. Im not much of a religious person, but this church had a certain feeling to it that I couldn't describe. Recommend visiting this church and to get the full experience stay for the mass. Again I am not a religious person, but this experience I'll never forget.

In the central square of the city. Very nice and very simple inside, barely any ornaments. Free entrance.

Don't miss a quiet moment in the midst of the hustle of the outside square. The architecture is amazing!

Many of Mexico's cathedrals are a riot of color, gilt, cherubs, virgins and saints. This one is not. It was stripped of its ornaments during an indigenous uprising long ago. I've always wondered why nobody has re-gilded it, as it were, in the intervening years.

Nice place.
This ciry is great and there's a lit to see and do.
I would recommend walking there on your way to somewhere :)

The cathedral is in the center of the historic section of Merida. (El Centro) On Sundays there's a huge fair in the park accross the street with vendors selling everything from food to jewelry to clothing. The streets are closed to vehicular traffic, so it's a great time to walk around and explore.
