“Beautiful”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Very nice. Especially beautiful at night and the streets are alive in front every Sunday night with dancing and vendors. It is not the most elaborate church I have seen, but beautiful in it's "simplicity".

“Typical Colonial Cathedral”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

I spent five minutes visiting this cathedral. It is not as pretty as the one in Vallalodid or other central American colonial cities.

Merida catherdral is quite different from its European counter parts of the same era. It has a stark beauty. Religion is a part of many Mexicans everyday life and you see statutes of the Madonna everywhere, going to the Catherdral and other churches gives you an opportunity to see another side to ordinary Mexicans everyday life.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Oldest cathedral built on solid ground in Mexico (claims our tour guide) with the largest indoor crucifix in the world. A must see if you visit Merida.

“Beautiful at night”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

A beautiful cathedral and the focal point of centro - it is pretty awe inspiring at night with the beautiful lighting. We sit on the stone wall in front sometimes to watch the world go by and have met interesting locals - they informed us that tourists don't usually sit there so we were mistaken for Expats, I guess. It was pretty funny when a local asked us how we felt about the Patriots losing that afternoon when we said we were from Boston. The Meridanos (?) seem to genuinely like Americans and sports - we once had a person marching in a parade yell Go Red Sox after asking where we're from.
