“Fantastic Holiday!”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

My husband and I had a fantastic week at Isla Mujeres Palace in October 2013. As always, we were greeted by the hotels wonderful staff who immediately know our names and treat us like long time friends. Ulises and Jose are excellent and always go out of there way to make sure everything is taken care of for us.

Wilma, in the dining room is exceptional, always smiling, goes out of her way to make sure you have anything you desire, and often will offer to help me with my horrible Spanish. :) She offers the best customer service! Even spoiling my husband with his favorite fruit, pitaya, when it wasn't available on the buffet. Also, at breakfast were Christian and Rosa and Sharaneen also go above and beyond to provide excellent service and a friendly relaxing atmosphere. Jose Luis and Arturo are 2 of my favorite dinner staff, they keep me and my husband laughing, will request anything you ask for from the chef, and always make sure you are full and happy. Daniel, Juan and Ariana were great too!
Eddy and Dario rock the bar and make delicious drinks. Even times when we observed some other guest being a bit rude, they kept a smile and did their best to make them happy.
Daniel, the manager, goes out of his way to find us to say hello and make sure everything is "excellent" for our stay. He does an excellent job!
This is a small resort where we go to relax and truly get away from it all. Most of the staff are now good friends of ours after traveling to this Palace resort for 5 years in a row.
The grounds at the resort are meticulously maintained, clean and beautiful. The accommodations and amenities are more than expected. The resort is amazing and we will be going back for many years!

Our visit to palace resort was to celebrate our 10th year anniversary, the place was very pleasant and relaxing. The people that work there treated us so well and pampered us every opportunity they had from the maids to management. I will never forget their names and how special they made our stay there. Special thanks to Jose the resort entertainer he was just incredible at what he does, Diego the bartender was amazing making us our favorite drinks and Roxana the manager on duty made our vacation stress free by going out of her way and taking care of our requests.
To all the personnel at palace resort in isla mujeres thank you so much.
We'll come back again soon and tell our friends about our great experience.

OK I'll start with the staff - they were great and attentive. The room was great, the resort was beautiful and we didn't mind that the beach as reported in other revues was full of grass. We chose this location because we liked the intimacy of the location and the "small" feel, unlike the hotel row across the water (Cancun). We got this right - IM Palace was nice and quite and very much as expected - relaxing and un-crowded. We loved the Island as well - the people, the touring and the simple fun of transportation with a golf cart. When we tell our friends of this visit we report that overall it was a very good experience. There were two areas that disappointed us and I hate to focus on this but other travelers should know. The first was relevant to activities- they actually have activity coordinators to help you spend your resort credits and help you enjoy your vacation. On arrival we met with Ulises who was very helpful and genuine. In fact he corresponded with me prior to arrival by email and arranged for transportation and ensured that we would receive our room preference. Our only disappointing arrival experience was being subjected to a time share condo pitch upon arrival before being escorted to our room by a supposed activity/entertainment person (not Ulises). Basically we had to listen to a pitch to go to another Palace Resort where we would get a 90 minute pitch and they would pay for our transportation while we squandered our vacation in ferries and taxis and pitches. This person persisted for two days every time he saw us, every time telling us that he would not be in the next day to extend the offer (even though he was). In fact I confronted him on the second day reminding him that he promised he was off. My wife finally convinced him that we weren't interested in looking at a time share while on vacation. Yes, this is a minor inconvenience, but we're on vacation.
The other disappointment was the food, as the title of the review. Yes it is an all inclusive and we didn't expect spectacular food. But we thought the food lacked in variety and was average at best. IM is an Island, yet there were little or no seafood selections. Yes, there is only one restaurant and we knew it, but we were OK when we read others saying that they offered several other menus. In fact, during our stay, there was a Mexican, Italian and International menu. Although the place was not crowded at all maybe 25 people (a plus), it seemed that whenever there was a tour of say a dozen or so of additional people brought from another palace resort, menus were canceled and a buffet was then announced. The buffet was entitled "Mayan" or "Caribbean"-yes it was Mexican buffet, regardless of the unique titling. In short, in five nights we were offered International menu only twice with I believe an overall selection of the two nights of three entrees. We were offered Italian only once-on the first night-I foolishly did not select anything and it never reappeared. Mexican menu, buffet or otherwise is available every night, and for that matter, every breakfast and lunch as well. In short - not enough variety and average food. Beverages: we are wine drinkers and the inclusive wine is below average and some were not even consumable-stay clear of the Sauvignon Blanc. You can supposedly buy wine with resort credits which we attempted to do-and they were out of almost everything on the wine list. The wine we did select at their resort credit value of I think $65 was just average-more close to a $10 bottle of wine.
Again, sorry for focus on the food, but at the price of this all-inclusive, you just expect more.

Room Tip: We had room 104 which was a club/concierge room with a good view of the beach and Cancun to the west...

This resort is very small, during the 4 days we stayed, there were not any activities during the day and only 1 restaurant was open. The food was good but not enough variety. We requested transportation to the resort and were told it was not available, however it was available to some of the visitors. Those who own time shares, had the yacht transportation. The rooms are lovely and the beds are very comfortable. If you are wanting seclusion, this is a good place to stay. If you are looking for entertainment and a variety of food choices, I would not recommend this resort. Other guests told us the other Palace resorts have more choices for food and entertainment. It is not easy to get to, fly to Cancun, taxi to marina, ferry to Isla Mujeres, taxi to the resort, they really need to offer the yacht transportation to all their guests. We spent most of the first day, getting to the resort. Since I complained about how hard it was to get there, Roxanne allowed us to leave on the yacht and it made a huge difference. She really does try to make everyone comfortable, as does Dario in the lobby bar!

Room Tip: Ask for the ocean view rooms

Dear Michelle W

On behalf of Isla Mujeres Palace Management, I thank you for taking the time to send us your comments and observations about our Resort. Feedback is extremely important to us as it helps us know how we are doing in terms of service and facilities. As I mention on yacht confirmation emails, this is a complementary service that follows some premises, (weather conditions, maintenance, etc.) if one of them do not let the boat able to sail, (that was your case when you arrive) regular Ultramar ferry is the only safe way to arrive to Isla Mujeres of course, this new logistic as well as your comments about entertainment and variety of food choices command my full care and involvement to revamp our processes in order to raise our quality standards and I thank you for this opportunity.

Respectfully

We chose the Palace because of it's an intimate couples only location. No screaming kids, had fun with other couples and the service was amazing! Rosa, Juleo, Christian, Arturo, Dario and Eddy treated us like royalty. The front desk crew was great too! Ulysses set up our private yacht shuttle back to the mainland. We rented a golf cart in town to see the sites and other beaches. If you are looking for relaxing days and great meals but no party seen... This is the place. Thank you for a great honeymoon!

My wife and I were @ Isla Mujeres Palace for very special week. I was mostly working on writing assignments that I had to complete, and my wife was just living large :) We have stayed here before, and are totally sold on the wonderful experiences that the staff @ Isla Mujeres lavishes upon us. We didn't think that there was anything that they could do this time to improve upon our previous visit, but we were wrong! Their new "In House" ferry service on a beautifully appointed luxury boat/yacht is the most amazing start and finish to our otherwise PERFECT vacation time. The laid back atmosphere here was just what the doctor ordered. From eating freshly prepared brick oven, wood fired pizza while relaxing in my hammock in the middle of a coco palm grove ... To the amazingly beautiful and delicious meals each evening ... We were pampered and spoiled totally rotten! We loved every minute of it! I just don't think that there is any other place in the world where we would rather be while taking a much needed R & R. Thank You to Daniel and his staff for the BEST VACATION EVER :)

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms on the second floor have the most amazing natural thatch roof on the balcony...

There are 80 rooms, and only 15 were occupied when we were there. The staff knew our preferences for food and drinks. They would approach us and insist on carrying our plates to our table. We felt like movie stars with our personal staff.
