“Relaxing spot to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

We just returned from a 10 day vacation to Isla Mujeres. We have visited the island many times, staying at an upscale boutique hotel several times and a bed and breakfast. We have had great luck with homes we have found on VRBO and thought we'd give it a try on IM. Having traveled here before we knew exactly where Casa Flamboyan is located. I am a road noise freak and was a little concerned about the road being right in front, but also know the island and realized that there are many, many places on that road. Yes, it's on the road, but really, not a problem at all! We would have our breakfast on the front "shared" porch watching the Mexican Navy go through their morning paces...actually very entertaining. We would then settle in on the back deck to do a little reading, watch the waves and relax. Noon time is cerveca time on vaca...walk into town, take a swim, talk with some others on the beach then lunch of yummy ceviche or grilled fish. Walk home, siesta time, wake up and watch the sunset...tough life! Off to dinner in town. We love the restaurants along the beach near the ferry crossing. They are all good, casual and fresh. We also like Ballyhoo (behind the gas station) and El Patio on Hidalgo. We went to Olivia's because that seemed to be what everyone does...it was good, but really, it did not live up to the reviews in our opinion. The best thing was that it had french wine in a real wine glass :-)

Casa FLamboyan itself is nicely laid out. We had most of our breakfasts there with the exception of going to Cafe Mango, and yes the coconut french toast is awesome. It has everything you would need in the kitchen, although we cooked very little and ate all dinners out. It was nice having a full size fridge for making ice etc. Bottled water is supplied, a really nice touch and so handy. Lupe came to clean twice and was around the house most days if we needed anything. The view from your private deck is awesome and the apt. is laid out so that you can see the water from every room. We stayed in Real and loved the open shower! But a word of warning...if you are a very private person this would not be for you. The bed was a little hard for us, but nice sheets. Towels are changed every 3 days (bath and beach) and that was great. It is very damp since you are so close to the water so things get a little sticky. The price you pay for being so close to the ocean, and well worth it!

We did not spend much time with Harriett and Richard, but they were welcoming and very nice.

Enjoy your stay at Casa Flamboyan. We loved it and we have stayed near North beach and mid-island and this location is great. ( we walked to and from town because we liked it, but taxis are easy to get if you want one) Have fun and stay here!

Room Tip: We loved Real. It's a little bigger and has a little bigger private deck, but really, they are b...

We just returned home from ten days at Casa Flamboyan. We have been to Isla many times over the years and knew that this was the area that we wanted to be. It is a comfortable walk into town or to the colonia - and we love to visit both! We stayed in Azul and could not have been more comfortable. The studio is outfitted with everything that you will need during your stay and it is clear that great love and attention went into the construction and decorating of this home. It is bright, cheerful, and fitted with a fantastic shower, comfortable bed and pillows, wonderful working AC (that you probably won't need if you leave the door open the the ocean breeze), a very functional kitchen, and lots of great outdoor sitting - from your own private deck to the shared ones at the front and up on the rooftop. Lots of hammocks too which is a must for me! The house is situated so that you can see both the sunrise and the sunset which is amazing! You will find a book in each apartment that outlines beautifully things to see and do, restaurants, and other useful tips. Harriet and Richard were wonderful hosts and we were pleased to spend some time with them during our stay. If you are looking for the perfect place to rest and relax then Isla and Casa Flamboyan are for you!

Room Tip: If you would like to enjoy the pool - it is nice and sunny in the morning and shady in the afternoon...

We spent two weeks at CF in February; loved the REAL unit, very spacious one bedroom right on the Caribbean - ocean views from front and back decks! Condo decor was done in local wood and bright, bold colours and also had a small dipping pool and a roof top patio. Harriet and Richard, the owners, were in their lower level unit while we were there and they willingly answered our questions; their information booklet filled our heads with things to do and see along with a list of the many, many restaurants on the Island. Rented a golf cart for one week and thoroughly explored this beautiful Island...walked and cabbed it the 2nd week. I agree with Leslie that the walk is 10 minutes...to the outskirts of town and then another 10 minutes to the main Playa Norte beach...so many shops and restaurants to visit on this walking excursion! Our MOST FAVOURITE restaurant for dinner...OLIVIA's!!! I'm sure the Mango Cafe would have been tied with Olivia's but we only made it there for lunch the day before we left....fabulous food and didn't realize they were open for dinner :( All in all, this was a vacation to remember for first-timers to Isla...we would definitely stay at CF again...no hesitation whatsoever!

Casa Flamboyan is lovely! Beautiful views from front and back deck plus rooftop patio. So many places to rest! Harriet and Richard were very helpful and gracious. A short 10 minute walk to town or the colonia's. Taxi's are plentiful and cheap. Beautiful place to stay on a beautiful island that we will soon make our home!

My vacation at Casa Flamboyan was amazing! Upon arrival, I was blown away by the sights and sounds. Ocean view BOTH front and back, and décor to love!! Pictures do not do it justice! Harriet was so wonderful. She was very gracious and helpful, knows the island well, but is also able to be unobtrusive. Since I often travel solo, it was nice to have an immediate friend!!

This was my 3rd trip to Isla Mujeres in just over a year, and I can say staying at Casa Flamboyan made me love this destination even more, if possible. What I liked so much was it felt like a home and made me feel more like a local (local ex-pat) living on the island!! I was not staying in some hotel that lacked warmth and undivided attention, like I received at my new Isla casita!!

Going to sleep to the sounds of the Caribbean, and waking up to the sun over the ocean was breathtaking. I was able to take a healthy walk into town everyday for breakfast at my favorite spots and some shopping and beach time. In the evenings, I would walk back into town for dinner and drinks. I rarely took a taxi, but they travel the street out front regularly so grabbing one was no problem for a couple of dollars. Even though the location was on a street, which was great for convenience, it was still incredibly quiet inside. Between the waves crashing, not much else was heard!! What more could you ask for!!

The casita was well appointed, from cold beer to shaving cream (neither ever travels well)! All the fine touches to make it like home are too long to list, but some stand outs are the interesting art everywhere, painted niches, wooden shelving, colorful walls, great storage, comfy bed and linens, ceiling fans, seating areas, and complete kitchen from coffee maker for the morning and shot glasses for the evening, and whatever you need in between!

There is a private deck on the back off the bedroom, a great place for morning coffee. The larger shared deck in front was a nice place to pass the time with a few beers during a rain storm. Put a little music on and watched the locals go about their day right in front, and the beautiful boats pass by as the sun set over the amazing storm clouds. The roof top party palapa had awesome 360 degree views! There was a large built in table, lounge chairs and plenty to see. I was drawn up there numerous times, and was a perfect place to sun in the afternoon. The plunge pool on the lower level was great for sun in the morning, and was very refreshing. Spent my last sad morning there reading and taking in my last glimpse of the Caribbean before I headed out to the ferry.

Other highlights that made my trip memorable: in room massage that Harriet set up for me; Lupe came to clean up my space and was so friendly, organized my mess, and made the place sparkle again; I was far enough away from the center of town to feel remote, but close enough to walk over to a market to pick up some goodies easily; and watching life go by in paradise!! I am thrilled that certain airlines are increasing direct seasonal flights to Cancun from Austin, so I can continue to visit Isla Mujeres whenever I need a break, and what better place to refresh and recreate than CASA FLAMBOYAN!!

See you soon in Isla....Julia - Austin, Texas

A beautiful casa close enough to make the effort of getting to and from town on foot and far enough away to be secluded when you want to. Lupe is a top notch manager who took good care of us the whole time. The owners, Harriet and Richard, gave us excellent dining advice (Desi y Raul's restaurant with the green door at the top of the hill in las colonias - damn good), set us up with someone who ended up creating a wonderful fishing trip for us, and celebrated a sunset with us in style. We first stayed at this location in 2004 when there was only the main floor. It's a stunning place now with 2nd story and roof top balcony views of both sides of the island. The kitchen is a little tiny yet functional, but that's what the loncherias are for on the north side of the island. This is definitely a place to return to.

My son and I have spent our spring break week at Casa Flamboyan for the last 5 years. It is a beautiful house. It's location is far enough away to feel secluded but close enough to walk into town if you want. The views of sun rise & sun set are breathtaking. The owners are very friendly and helpful if they happen to be there.
