“Great Location on Isla Mujeres”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

There are two buildings in this resort. Building one, is on your left if you looking at the main photo, posted by the resort. (As if you were in a boat at sea, facing the resort)

The two buildings, look very much the same, but they are different. This review covers building One. (Building two appears to have time share affiliation, as they had the RCI plaque in the lobby)

In Building One, the units are privately owned. The resort rents the units for the property owners.
Each unit is furnished to the property owners taste.
We stayed in unit 305 & 306.
It was nicely decorated. Our biggest issue, we had a party of five. The description of the unit stated, "futon sofa" this was not the case, and a 13 year old traveling in our party ended up sleeping on a love seat.

The other thing that should be noted, if you book a room with two queen beds, there is no balcony.
The two bedroom suite, has two balconies, one in the master and one in the main living area. There's a small dining table and a nice little kitchen.
All the rooms have ocean views.

Each building has its own swimming pool and bar. There's staff on hand at the beach to assist with lawn chairs and umbrellas. Servers come by to provide food and drink options. The service was very good at the beach. They will put the umbrellas by your chairs and bring tables when you place your lunch order.

There is Wi-Fi at the property, the first two days we had issues with the service and so did the other guests. The issued was corrected and Wi-Fi was working great by day three.
We had a few small issues in the unit and they were quick in getting the issues resolved.

The resort is one block to the Main Street with restaurants, shopping and a bit of late night options.
The location was great and beach is really amazing. White, soft sands. Boats do come in and park in front of the resort to enjoy the beauty.

We arranged transportation with the hotel, our pick-up was 20 minutes late. I would recommend this service. It's $65 per person, pick up from the airport, transfer to the pier, tickets for the ferry and then they pick you up at the docks and take you to the hotel.

Tip, rent a golf cart for a day and see the island.

Room Tip: A double room has no balcony

My partner and I spent 4 nights here in a 1 bedroom garden view unit. Although there were a couple of negatives, the placement of the property alone makes it worth the stay here. We have been to Mexico and the Caribbean many many times and I'm a Caribbean travel consultant so we have a lot of comparisons to make here. The front desk staff, while always very pleasant, were not really of much help, specifically with obtaining a golf cart for the day which is pretty much how everyone gets around to see the island. The first day we asked, they made 1 phone call and send they don't have any, check back with us in the morning. The next morning we got the same answer. The morning after that we got the same answer and I finally said, "can we call some other rental places?" We finally got one reserved on our last day but the weather turned bad and we didn't end up going. Also, the beach situation. Ixchel shares the beach with at least 2 other establishments selling food/drinks and also putting out chairs. Besides the chaos that ensues, this makes the small beach totally packed on sunny days. Not the hotel's fault but doesn't make for the best beach day in my opinion. The beach is pretty but not the awe dropping scene I expected. The rooms were very comfortable and, if we had stayed longer, we would definitely have bought some food & drink items for the equipped kitchen. The hotel's convenience tow El Pueblo and Hidalgo St, though, is it's best attribute. Very convenient for getting a meal, a drink or doing some shopping. Many great, and pretty inexpensive, places to eat, too. We liked the vibe of Isla and would definitely consider going again. We would also probably stay at Ixchel again.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money and get ocean view

2nd year at the Ixchel, best beach on the island, the people are very friendly and helpful. Rented mopeds, golf carts and went on a sunset cruise that was so relaxing with a wonderful Australian Captain. Alot of sun and floating on our sit-and-floats that we and 2 other couples tied together, we were dubbed Mn island when we were floating along. A great time was had by all, would come again!

I loved everything about this place... the accommodations, the location, the friendly and helpful staff. Was there with my kids and their kids and other family and friends and we all look forward to returning.. (The ground level condos are especially great for families with young children,) I would recommend using AGI Tours, the transportation company that has a link on the hotel's home page, for transport to and from the airport. We were a large group and they made sure our transfers went off without a hitch. I honestly have nothing but rave reviews for this hotel.

Room Tip: If you have young children the ground level condos are really nice as they open on to a lawn and hav...

After staying at Ixchel Beach three years in a row, we compared our experience this year to past visits. Better: no palapa noise at night; no obscenities and ear-splitting music from the Albatross "adult-cruise" when it anchored near shore; improved service at the Ixchel Beach Hotel, including much-improved WiFi thanks to new repeater nodes added to the rooms.
In general, Isla Mujeres is still the lovely island we've come to know and appreciate. There are more people; it's a bit more expensive now; and the trash on the Playa Norte is more prevalent than in the past. Note that the Kalak poolside restaurant at the hotel no longer offers a children's menu. That said, Ixchel Beach is still a good value offering an interesting balance between a restful, relaxing environment and a busy "playa" providing family fun.

We went with 2 other families for Spring Break. Isla is our best kept secret. Not crazy busy over spring break and alot of families. We had 3 2BR condos and 1 penthouse. Sooo cool and location, location! It was very safe too. Kids loved renting golf carts, walking into town to their favorite Gelatto ice cream shop etc.... The condos were really clean, and had all the amenities. Grocery store close by and great restuarants. You could bring your own food/drink to beach or great beach service too! My mouth is still watering over the fresh Grouper sandwich, grouper taco's and the club sandwich from San Martin restuarant nearbye! Also farmers market close with fresh juices. Make sure you have plenty of cash or Pesos. Credit card use not available most places & ATM fees crazy expensive.

Room Tip: We had 3 familes with different views and buildings. All were good in their own way and all had uni...

It is always a little nervous feeling when going on vacation and not knowing exactly what your hotel will be like - we were so pleased and Ixchel was perfect!! We got a standard room and it was great! Very nice and very clean and had everything we needed. The staff were incredibly attentive and super nice. The location is unbeatable!! Literally a one minute walk to Hidalgo Street where all the restaurants, bars, and shops are. The beach at Ixchel is to die for. My family and I will definitely come back to Isla Mujeres and stay at Ixchel again!
