Thank you to Ixchel's front desk and staff for saving our 10th wedding annivesary vacation. We started our vacation at another resort and we're extremely displeased. We stopped in at Ixchel and luckily they had availability. Within 5 minutes we had a room, the front desk and security department secured our luggage until we could actually check in. This allowed us to enjoy the day with our friends on the island. When we checked in to our suite what a pleasant surprise, clean room, fresh bottled water available, full kitchen amenities. A shower where you could shave; I know that men may not understand but woman do! A balcony terrace with a beautful view of the beach. Oh and did I mention fresh clean beach towels, umbrella's available and the service on the beach was fantastic. The staff at Ixchel know good customer service and they exceeded our expectations. So Mucho Gracias to Ixchel see you next year.

Hello, Minions. Yes, that's me up in the clouds on the balcony of 709 enjoying the best condo on the entire island, waving to you down below.

My favorite part is the balcony. Huge and private. Chaise lounges, regular chairs, tables/chairs, a wonderful hot tub and a view that is unequaled. We arranged to have massages on the balcony and it was incredible. The waves, the sun going down and faint music and laughter from a wedding at Sunset Grill.

Everything is there. Dishes, wine glasses, comfy furniture and beds. Purified water dispenser, coffee maker, ice chests. The upgrades that have been made recently are fantastic. Larger bathroom, gorgeous new sinks (the bamboo one is super cool!), beautiful tilework and more closet space. Bravo!

Beach towels and umbrellas/chaise lounges are available at no charge on the beach in front of the hotel, two sparkling clean pools, a shower by the pool to rinse off sand (I know that seems like a little thing, but I like it). The hotel is perfectly situated on Playa Norte with a one block walk into town for dining/shopping.

I only rated the 'spa' and 'breakfast' as average because we didn't partake of either.

I always feel like a Princess, but even more so when I stay in 709.

I have stayed at Ixchel 4 times and everytime it has been a great experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the condos are very clean. I am planning my 5th trip soon. I would not stay anywhere else on the island. It is also in a great location for all the restaurants and shopping. I highly recommend this place!!

My wife and I have stayed at Ixchel one time before and had a great time! We ended up waiting too long this year to book, and weren’t able to get into Ixchel for the times we needed. In the end, we (and two other couples) booked at a resort to the North of Ixchel on an island connected by a bridge. After two absolutely miserable days at that location, I went to visit my friend Mauricio (Concierge) at Ixchel and explained our circumstances. I’m not sure how these guys pulled it off, but they were able to accommodate all three couples for the rest of our stay (with only one room change each). This totally brought our vacations back to life (even after having to pay for a second hotel), and we had a tremendous time. If you’re thinking about Isla Mujeres, this has the location and feel that you want! Cheers and gracias to everyone at Ixchel!

Three generations of women splurged and have only wonderful things to say about our stay at the Ixchel Beach Hotel. We were "grandma," "aunt," and "cousin" - three generations - attending a family destination wedding. We wanted a beach front and we also had a beautiful view of the pool area. The only thing that was not perfect were the hard pillows - but we slept well, anyway. Grandma, at 93, enjoyed being so nearby the postcard type beach and enjoyed watching the kids - and everyone - have a grand time in the sand and the ocean. The short walk from a huge variety of restaurants and shopping straight down Hildago was fun and easy. Staff was very helpful in renting our golf cart and any other questions were answered with a smile. We received free towels, chairs and umbrellas and special service every day at the beach. [They all pampered MaMa and she loved every minute]. We had coffee, plenty of towels, well-kept rooms, exceptional decor, a big bottle of water refilled as needed and a beautiful space to relax. The kitchen is equipped with all you need for a snack or quick meal. Can't tell you about the tvs because we never got around to turning them on. The noise level was low except for one night during Carnival. Best of all, the Ixchel Beach Hotel and surroundings were very clean during our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach front if you can afford it. We enjoyed the sunny, bright corner rooms. Ask to chang...

The Good:
-Placed on the best part of the stunning beach.
-Close to restaurants and Hidalgo area
-Huge and very clean apartments with a great balcony. Comfortable beds.
-excellent service by front desk and concierge
-2 pools and one of them (over)heated, close to beach
-efficient service by the beach by the restaurant staff
-enough sunbeds at the beach and by the pool in February. No sunbed-reservers, thank god!

The Bad:
-our apartment was too porly decorated and equipped (second house, the same as the reception). A couple of rugs, more colorful textiles and better equipped kitchen (sauce pans, cutting board etc all very worn) would have changed the perception a lot. Our friends were much more content with their apartment so it seems as if they are all a bit different. Even though they also booked directly through Ixchel. We asked about it when checking in but got the answer that all apartments are the same.
-sofa bed not comfortable to sleep on, make sure to reserve the extrabed if needed
-daughter caught an ear infection from the (over)heated pool.

Would I return?
Most definitely! However, next time I will make sure to know exactly which apartment to book.

Why not five star?
We ususally prefer even smaller establishments, but this one was very close to get a five from me.

Other:
-There are two restaurants serving at the beach. Ixchel's Kalak and another called Leidy Palapa. We preferred the food of Leidy Palapa. However! The last time we ordered from them we did it without looking at the menu as we knew the prices and selection. When we got the bill they had doubled the price on all the items!! So make sure to check everything before paying. The waiter apologized and quickly corrected the bill when we notified him about the issue......

-Isla Mujeres is advertised as a car free zone. This is not 100% true. There are cars but owned by locals as well as taxis and trucks. I was surprised by the amount of traffic since I expected that there was going to be none. Tourists can only rent golf cars.
